Check out the front-page story in the Duluth News Tribune about how Lake Superior College is leading the effort to reduce textbook costs by offering more Z-Degrees ( Zero costs for text books).

Several members of the campus community were interviewed about the ongoing and coordinated effort to reduce textbook costs for students through the new Z-Degree program, which will use online resources to replace textbooks costs while earning an A.A. degree. LSC is one of six Minnesota State schools developing the Z-Degree which will be available fall semester.

Lake Superior College Hosts High School Counselor's Appreciation Breakfast
We are grateful for all counselors do for students! More than 25 high school guidance counselors, from throughout the region as well as schools from the Twin Cities, were on campus last week for the annual high school counselor's appreciation breakfast. They heard about exciting updates at LSC and resources available for prospective and current students.

Academic Deans, Student Services, Admissions and LSC Administrators provided updates and thanked the group for all they do. The integrated manufacturing department set up its virtual welding station, the aviation department offered a chance to fly a plane through its flight simulator, and the massage therapy program offered chair massages by students. Facility tours were also available, including the Eco-Entrepreneurship program’s greenhouses. HawkEye the LSC IceHawk made an appearance as well. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day such a success, especially the admissions team who organized the event.
Tutoring and Learning Center Reaches Out to Students During Mid-Terms with Donut Holes, Coffee, and Study Tips

 LSC’s Tutoring and Learning Center passed out more than 900 donut holes, coffee and study tips to support students in their mid-term exams. The TLC offers professional and peer tutors available on a walk-in basis to help students in math, science and writing, computers and study rooms.
Early St. Patrick's Day Celebration With Treats and Safe Driving Tips

Students enjoyed root beer floats served by the LSC Choir Club, tried their hand at safe driving goggles and interactive DUI tests, and played sober pong to win prizes at Student Life’s early St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Thanks to the Minnesota State Patrol for helping our students stay safe and Student Life for helping organize the fun event.

  • LSC's integrated manufacturing helps high school students with 3-D printer parts and CAD for regional robotics competitions at the DECC in the Duluth News Tribune.

  • Open forums to discuss the L Building renovation project and other staff office moves will be held on Monday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in room S240 and on Tuesday, March 24 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in room S253. Thanks to everyone who attended the first open forum on Monday, March 9.

  • The Intercultural Center invites everyone on Wednesday, March 11 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Room S111 to view and discuss the documentary, "Love Them First: Lessons for Lucy Laney Elementary," a powerful award-winning film about a public elementary school in North Minneapolis.

  • LSC's Massage Therapy programs seeks women in their second or third trimester of pregnancy to receive a free 60-minute massage. Sessions will be on March 19 at 9:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Call (218) 733-5936.

  • Aviation Career Night will be held Friday, March 27 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at LSC's Center for Advanced Aviation.
