Serious 94+ Point, $15.79 Sauvignon Blanc from Rafael Tirado!

A few months ago, Wine Advocate published a report on new releases from many of Chile's most important producers, including several wineries that we have not previously worked with. One wine that particularly caught our eye was a  94+ point 2019 Sauvignon Blanc produced by a rising star winemaker named Rafael Tirado.

"He produces one of the best Sauvignon Blancs from Chile, though it is often overlooked because it sells at a very low price."
          - Wine Advocate, February 2020

We are thrilled today to offer his nervy, high-pitched Sauvignon Blanc for just $15.79. It's a crazy price for a wine of this caliber. Scroll down for the full story, including Wine Advocate's detailed tasting notes, then quickly click on the  Big Yellow Button  to place your order!

2019 Laberinto "Cenizas de Laberinto" Sauvignon Blanc
Maule Valley, Chile
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rafael Tirado crafts his "Cenizas de Laberinto" Sauvignon Blanc from a parcel of organically farmed vines that he planted 20 years ago in volcanic soil at an elevation of 1,800 feet. The vines are now at peak maturity and, over each of the last six vintages, this bottling has taken home Wine Advocate scores of 93 Points or higher. That is an incredible accomplishment for any wine, let alone one that sells for under sixteen bucks!
Earning 94+ points, the 2019 Cenizas de Laberinto is one seriously structured bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Displaying a beautifully distinctive platinum/silver color, t his taut and youthful wine offers bone-tingling acidity along with  crisp, clean aromas and flavors of  green tobacco, lime pith, bell pepper, green apple, nectarine and tree fruit blossom. This wine reminds us much more of Sancerre and other high-acid wines from the Loire Valley than it does your typical Kiwi or Chilean Sauvignon Blanc!
Make sure to allow plenty of time for this young wine to breathe - we're talking more than a few swirls in the glass, feel free to let this beauty sit in the decanter for an hour or two. Once aerated, this  elevated, nervy wine is fun to drink now and it promises to be even better 6 to 18 months down the line. In their glowing review, Wine Advocate quotes a drinking window running through 2028. That's serious longevity for a wine of this price.
"2019 was a milder year than 2018, and the 2019 Cenizas de Laberinto Sauvignon Blanc is marginally more civilized than the 2018 I tasted next to it. It was kept with the lees in the fermentation vessel for some eight months. Even so, in this part of much cooler Maule, the differences between vintages tend to be more subtle, and 2019 is not a warm vintage, just less cold. Perhaps the wine is a little rounder, more citrusy than herbal and surprisingly has lower alcohol than the 2018 I tasted next to it. It has terrific balance on the palate, with acidity that still makes you salivate and is effervescent but perhaps not as sharp as colder years. It's a balanced vintage,, and the wine feels very complete and precise. 18,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2019. He has moved from screwcap to natural cork in 2019, as he thinks it will result in higher complexity as the wine ages in bottle. Bravo! Drink Date: 2020 - 2028."
