TouchUps weekly
Greetings!, this is your newsletter for July 29, 2020
From The League of NH Craftsmen
We are so excited to welcome you to the League of NH Craftsmen’s First Virtual Fair!
We have held our Annual Craftsmen’s Fair for eighty-seven years, with more than fifty of those years during the first week in August at the Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, NH. Due to the health and safety concerns posed by the current pandemic, we determined that we were unable to hold the in-person event in 2020. We have tried to capture some of our favorite elements of the Fair and provide them to you in this online format. We will have links to shop directly from over 140 Virtual Fair participants, live and on-demand videos including demonstrations of the creation of craft, studio tours, presentations of new work and craft workshops. We will have musical performances, and a virtual tour of our Art, Craft & Design Exhibition – and perhaps a few surprises through the week. We hope you will shop with your favorite craftsmen – and maybe find the work of someone new! We also hope that you will donate to the League, to allow us to continue our work on behalf of our nearly 700 juried members.
Your support of these artists and our organization is critical at this time.
Thank you for being a part of our Virtual Fair! "

Those of you that are interested in woodturning I will be providing live woodturning demos throughout the week. Go to https://nhcrafts.org/event-calendar/ for my schedule and that of many others and details.

The Guild has a new tool. It's survey software called SoGoSurvey. This tool can be used for all sorts of survey functions. Due to covid-19 all our meetings are virtual. With annual meetings approaching how do we get membership input for elections? Nominations, voting! Well we're about to find out. The GSWT will be the first to try this tool to solicit nominations and then provide a voting tool that is all done on line prior to the meeting. Expect an email announcement soon with details.
Well it's now official. The 1992 Old Saw has a new name. It will be called the " Old Saw Re-Sharpened"

Mike DiMaggio is busy gathering new materials and has several prominent, influential woodworking individuals lined up for interviews. Coming to you this fall. Stay tuned for updates.

GSWT Virtual "Show and Tell"

You don't need a piece to tune in. Join us to see what members are turning.
If you've been a GSWT member for any length of time you know that July has typically been a critique meeting. In leu of Covert-19, on July 29th, 6:30-8:30 we will be doing a virtual "show and tell" with a discussion on how and why.
Please include details on how you did it and why you chose the style or form.
Also if there is any tricks or techniques that you used to get that piece finished please share. If anyone would like to make recommendations or positive feedback I believe it would be welcomed. "Zoom" will be the platform used for the Virtual meeting. Go to the GNHW Events to register.

Ever hear of Ridge Carbide Tool
Well the Guild is glad to announce that it is in conversations with the Owner of Ridge to provide us, the Guild a 10% discount for both products and services. They make and sell great quality carbide sawblades. They re-sharpen both theirs and other brand sawblades. They will even provide custom grinds. Go here to see a list of all our advertisers providing us with discounts.
Member Forum—Take Advantage

The member forum is a good way to network with other Guild members during this shut down. You do not need a forum account to view what is up there. But by creating an account of your own, you can participate in the discussion, create a topic, ask questions, and best of all receive an email anytime a new post is created.

Please refrain from posting copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you. A quote or perhaps a few sentences if attributed from copyrighted material is OK. But please use caution as this is a public forum.
Welcome to each new member who joined the Guild last month. Please make these members welcome should you see them at your next meeting.

Check out the member directory (login required). Car pooling to a meeting is a great idea.

Current membership count = 626

Guild Branded Merchandise

The Guild store is back!

The Guild has sold guild branded shirts and hats at cost to the membership for many years.

You can order from the  online store or contact  Bob Wyatt at  merchandise@gnhw.org. He may be able to bring an item to a mutual meeting.

You can find the new online store at  GNHW.org/store.

New Videos Added to Our Library

Guild library videos are a long standing tradition with the Guild. What began as a lending library documenting many Guild demonstrations and lectures at general meetings, subgroup meetings and symposia presentations, was eventually converted from VHS tapes to DVD format and later  available on our website.

We have several new videos from our recent foray into video conferencing.

More will be added as they are developed in the coming weeks.

Small Meetings
