Ben Bolgar is a qualified architect, Senior Director at the Prince’s Foundation, and Design Director of the development company, Stockbridge Land. He is a visiting fellow at Kellogg College, Oxford and an honorary fellow of the University College of Estate Management. At The Foundation, he has led masterplanning and design strategies for several large projects, including Nansledan in Cornwall for 4,000 homes and Sherford in the South Hams for 7,000 homes. Ben has also worked on healthcare projects such as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, one of the most sustainable in Europe, and advised clients on the remodeling and transformation of heritage buildings such as St. Martin-in-the Fields, Kensington Palace, the National Gallery, and the Royal College of Music.

Hosted by the Southern California Chapter in Collaboration with the National Office

Step into New York City of the Gilded Age: in the spring of 2021, the ICAA was pleased to welcome architectural historian Francis Morrone for his talk "Edith Wharton & Her New York," a lecture co-hosted by the National Office and the Southern California Chapter.

Edith Wharton is well known among architects and designers for her first book, The Decoration of Houses, an enormously influential tract on interior design published in 1897. She was also, of course, one of America’s greatest novelists, and 2020 marked the one hundredth anniversary of her best-known novel, The Age of Innocence.

In this lavishly illustrated talk, Francis explores the native Manhattanite’s home town from the time of her birth at 14 West 23rd Street in 1862 to her departure for France at the turn of the century, and the world of The Age of Innocence, set among New York’s insular upper class in the 1870s, a time of profound change in America, in New York, and in what constituted “society.”

For more than thirty years, Ferguson & Shamamian Architects has been one of the country’s leading residential architecture firms. As illustrated in their new book COLLABORATIONS: Architecture Interiors Landscapes—which features an extensive body of work across the country—Ferguson & Shamamian’s approach to architectural design seamlessly harmonizes timeless, understated classical character, proportion and detail with a keen understanding of their clients’ tastes, desires, and necessities for modern life.

For the firm's first event in honor of their new book, firm partners Damian Samora and Scott Sottile, and principal Andrew Oyen, spoke with design journalist Margaret Russell to discuss their unique process of collaboration and how their creative approach allows them to design truly one-of-a-kind residences that reflect the lives and personalities of their clients.
