AIA Rochester Design Awards - SEPTEMBER 25th

We can't be in the same room for Design Awards this year, but we can still share a toast! Concoct a signature cocktail recipe to be featured at our Design Awards Virtual Happy Hour. We can make and enjoy the signature beverage together at home while we toast our winners.

Consider designing your cocktail's name to include 2020 buzzwords such as "pandemic" or "virus," or to address the new sustainability (green!) aspect of our Awards.

Snap a photo and post to Instagram with the hashtag #AIAROCtail2020 (be sure your profile is public). Include your drink's name and recipe in the comments. Entries may also be emailed to [email protected]. All entries due by Friday September 18, 2020.

Winner receives bragging rights, a certificate, and a prize. Visit https://www.aiaroc.org/2020-design-awards for more information about our Design Awards.
Residential design trends reflect generational preferences

  Architecturally Speaking
Since March, most Americans have been spending more time at home. The results of this situation have created a massive demand on home improvement projects and caused even more disruption in an already strained materials supply chain (lumber, for instance, is at huge premium). READ MORE
Virtual Food Drive

As we near the fall season, the beginning of school, and eventually, dare I say, winter, accessibility to healthy food will become even more important to local families.  Since the local AIA has been unable host in-person, community events and gatherings this year as we had hoped, we have re-focused our outreach efforts toward the community in a broader sense. With that said, AIA Rochester is pleased to be able to host a virtual food drive through Rochester Food Link: https://foodlinkny.org/

This year, more than ever, please consider a donation through this food drive. All proceeds will go directly to the Rochester Food Link, and will benefit many local families in need of nutritious food.

Working together as the strong architectural and design community we are, I know we can reach our goal of $5,000! The food drive will run from September 1 to September 30. You can access the link here.
Architectural Foundation of Greater Rochester Legacy Leaders

The idea of legacy has special importance as it applies to design professionals. Architects, engineers and interior designers leave an indelible mark on the world we live in. Whether currently practicing, retired or having passed on, Rochester design professionals have literally shaped our region. Many of our colleagues have contributed in ways deeply appreciated by the design community and the community at large.   READ MORE

Getting to net zero
In 2007, the AIA helped set the Federal 2030 Net Zero Energy Goals. Today, we continue to push for ways to achieve and surpass them.

This includes preserving Section 433 of the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), which cost-effectively improves energy performance for federal buildings, and leading the fight to protect energy efficiency incentives like the 179D tax deduction. On the state and local levels, we are guiding governments and communities toward effective green building incentives.   READ MORE
