DON'T FORGET! DEADLINE IS TODAY!
KBD - Provisional Licenses Extended to Sept. 25, 2020 (TODAY!)

The Board of Dentistry has approved the extended use of provisional licenses until Sept. 25 (TODAY!). In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board issued an April 17, 2020 memorandum, that, among other provisions, created a temporary licensure process to allow recent dental and dental hygiene school graduates to practice for 90 days without having passed the required clinical examinations. A revised memo was issued on July 20 stating that all provisional licenses, regardless of the date of issue, shall now expire on September 25, 2020. All other policies in the original April 17 memo remain unchanged.

September/October coming, soon!

This event provided a safe and healthy opportunity for local doctors to interact with one another, as well as remain updated on the latest technology. ADA Tip Sheet Helps Health Care Professionals Avoid Counterfeit N95 Masks

The ADA News (5/7, Versaci) reports that the ADA has "created a tip sheet with guidance from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health group at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help health care professionals avoid buying or using counterfeit N95 respirators, which are often simply referred to as masks." For instance, suspicious websites or marketplaces may have "a primary email contact that uses a free email service; typos, bad grammar and other errors; broken links; and unfinished content." In addition, N95 counterfeit masks may lack or misspell NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) on its marking, lack an approval number or other type of marking, have ear loops rather than a headband, claim approval for use by children, or include decorative add-ons.

For more information, including examples of counterfeit N95 masks, visit Counterfeit Respirators/Misrepresentation of NIOSH-Approval on the CDC website.

The ADA also offers a free, on-demand webinar called Respiratory Protection in the Era of COVID-19 that includes presentations from two infection control experts from the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention and focuses on the steps necessary to introduce the use of N95 and other masks into the dental office.

The ADA also created a chart that highlights the characteristics of several common types of masks and their appropriate uses.

Together, these dentists have donated more than $130K in lifesaving dental care for 32 residents of Kentucky. These dentists are:
  • Dr. R.T. Bolin with Bohle Family Dentistry in Paducah
  • Dr. Joseph Cieslak with Louisville Oral Surgery and Dental Implants in Louisville
  • Dr. Casey Crowdis in Louisville
  • Dr. Jeremy Fairbourn in Shelbyville
  • Dr. Shana Hughes in Russell Springs

DDS provides free, comprehensive dental treatment to our country's most vulnerable people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically fragile. These are people who cannot afford necessary treatment and cannot get public aid. The program operates through a volunteer network of 15,000 dentists and 3,500 dental labs across the United States. Learn more or volunteer on the Dental Lifeline Network website.
