It is exciting that Christ Church has been a Reconciling Church since 2006. The mission of the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) is to “equip and mobilize United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves. … Simply put, (RMN) work(s) to advance justice and inclusion for all LGBTQ people in The United Methodist Church and beyond.” Formed in 1984, RMN has worked to transform churches and communities, and the hearts of people.
Christ Church worked in this same manner for many years before voting and openly joining the Reconciling Church Ministries.
With the United Methodist Church in a state of flux, and that sense of unrest and instability continuing at least through this year and probably next, we are called to continue the blessed mission of inclusion and welcoming, loving and growing. The COVID-19 pandemic and an upcoming shift in pastoral leadership mean that Christ Church UM is also in a time of change. The good news is that the community of faith that is Christ Church UM is a congregation who knows who we are. This is a church that welcomes all people into the life and ministries of the community. This is a church that welcomes ALL people, recognizing differences and being invitational to all beings and cultures. In this way, we are inspired to try new things, to speak openly, and to be bold. This church, this community of faith, brings all of us varied people together in ways that help us be available to the extended community that surrounds 7th & Colorado and throughout the metro area. Our inclusive culture empowers all of us to connect, belong, and grow.
Inclusion is about the actions that we take each and every day. I encourage you to engage in conversations where you will be exposed to new ideas and perspectives. I encourage each of you to encourage anyone who might be feeling like an outsider to join in a conversation. We will discover so much about ourselves and others and welcome the unique contributions brought by all.
Join our worship service on Sunday, May 2nd as we celebrate our status as a Reconciling Church. So, you have imaginative hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink! Like polka dots with stripes? Sweet! Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us in this community we call… Church!
Blessings for the journey,
Rev. Sharon
