As the year comes to an end, we extend our gratitude to all the DUI MAT Providers who worked so hard this year to educate, inform, counsel, inspire, and coordinate for those seeking treatment for SUD. To everyone who went the extra mile for this project, your colleagues, and clients...you are the BEST!
This month we launched a new quarterly report feature in the data portal that enables DUI MAT providers to submit quarterly reports online vs in a fill-able PDF. A special thanks to Gloria Mullendore, CEO of Safety Consulting and School Ten for providing the following positive feedback on the new feature.
Thank you, thank you for the new reporting form for our quarterly DUI MAT Project Deliverables. It’s fantastic that we can transmit through the Data Portal & subsequently edit, view, print, whatever we need. It’s so much more professional & a better tool for us providers.

LA County has graciously made their trainings available to ALL DUI MAT Providers! Check out LA County's Substance Abuse and Prevention Control (SAPC) training calendar for events that align with DUI MAT project deliverables. DUI MAT funds may be utilized as appropriate. The resource is a full calendar of quality training addressing many SUD related topics.

Ms. Pinney and Ms. Valdez have been champions of the DUI MAT project and involved at a high level throughout. Relapse Prevention and Healthy Coping

Thursday, January 27, 2022 1:00 pm-3:15 pm • Virtual • No Charge
This live virtual training is designed for specialty providers, which will focus on information of substance use disorders. The presentation will focus on the characteristics and multiple presentations of relapse with a focus on healthy coping skills including hands-on activities to engage the participants in the process of the decision-making model with regards to the consequences to using substances.

Justice System Touchpoints
|
Health Management Associates (HMA) created the project “County Touchpoints in Access to MAT for Justice-Involved Populations” with the recognition that persons released from jail and receiving MAT frequently encountered judges, probation officers, child welfare workers, and other justice system personnel who did not consider the person to be “clean” or “drug free” if they were using MAT. Often, clients were encouraged or required by agencies to reduce or terminate MAT in order to qualify for services, be released from probation, or regain custody of their children. Prematurely reducing or terminating MAT places the individual at very high and preventable risk for relapse, overdose and death.

US Students Report a Decrease in Illicit Drug Use |
The percentage of adolescents reporting substance use decreased significantly in 2021, according to the latest results from the Monitoring the Future survey of substance use behaviors and related attitudes among eighth, 10th, and 12th graders in the United States. In line with continued long-term declines in the use of many illicit substances among adolescents previously reported by the Monitoring the Future survey, these findings represent the largest one-year decrease in overall illicit drug use reported since the survey began in 1975.

Mother & Baby Substance Exposure Toolkit |
Developed through the MAT Expansion Project. The project team from Health Management Associates, California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative and California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative gathered a diverse task force of obstetric and pediatric providers, anesthesiologists, nurses, social workers, and public health professionals to create a toolkit focused on maternal and newborn care from the prenatal period through hospital discharge. A Fun Fact for the New Year |

The first New Year’s celebration dates back 4,000 years. Julius Caesar, the emperor of Rome, was the first to declare January 1 a national holiday. He named the month after Janus, the Roman god of doors and gates. Janus had two faces, one looking forward and one looking back. Caesar felt that a month named after this god would be fitting.

The DUI MAT Integration/Outreach Project 2.0 is one of over 30 projects to receive State Overdose Response II (SOR II) funding in support of the overall goals of California's MAT Expansion Project. DUI MAT 2.0 will build upon the success of DUI MAT 1.0 and will help to fulfill the objective to Transform entry points for individuals with opioid and poly-substance use disorders and create effective referrals into treatment.
