This Is Normally a Very Quiet Time--But Not This Year.
December is ordinarily a very quiet month in Sacramento. There's only about two weeks of work activity followed by vacation for just about all those around the state Capitol. This break in activity prepares all of us for the very hectic pace that starts in January.
This year is very different in so many ways. Time magazine, which I guess is only relevant to those of us over 50 named five women who came forward to tell their stories of sexual assault in the workplace as "Person of the Year". Though she was the leading candidate all along, it's not a coincidence that this was the month the state Senate chose Senator Toni Atkins, Democrat from San Diego, to serve as the next President Pro Tempore. CCCBHA Events: Save the Dates!

The Executive Advocacy Day is designed for CEO's, executive directors, senior management, and policy staff of our member organizations. It will be an opportunity to introduce the legislators and their staff to CCCBHA for the 2018 legislative season, present our 2018 Policy Platform and review the priority items and challenges facing behavioral health care for the year.
CCCBHA staff will schedule the appointments and have everything ready for you when you arrive. We will kick off with a 2 hour orientation where we will review the various materials and related talking points. You will then join your team members and review your meeting schedule. This is an important part of our overall efforts to build our advocacy program lead by representatives from our member agencies. We hope representatives from many of our member agencies will attend this crucial event to kick off our advocacy season.

Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be given to cancellations made one week prior to any event date. Cancellations made in writing to [email protected] three weeks prior to any event date will be refunded 50% of fees paid. A $25 administrative fee will apply to late registrations.

The deadline to take advantage of CCCBHA's discounted group rate of $209.00 per night is January 8, 2018. The special room rate will be available until the deadline, or until the group block is sold-out, whichever comes first.
Cancellations with refunds must be made prior to 48 hours of check-in.

David A. Pilon, Ph.D., who served as president and chief executive officer of Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) since 2009, retired on November 1st. The MHALA Board of Directors recently hired Christina Miller, Ph.D., former associate director of Ocean Park Community Center (now called The People Concern) in Santa Monica as his successor. Dr. Pilon served the organization continuously since joining it in 1989. In promoting the recovery concept for people with mental illness and their reintegration into community, he has been at the forefront of improving conditions through service design, training and development of quality-of-life outcomes systems. Dr. Pilon pioneered the integrated care approach to mental health recovery services. This integrated approach to care guided the 2004 California Mental Health Services Act, making the MHA Village's approach a new model for adult mental health care in California and across the U.S. A leading expert in research and evaluation, Dr. Pilon was selected in 2000 by the California Department of Mental Health to coordinate the outcomes study for the AB 2034 programs, which provided integrated services to people with mental illness who cycled between streets and jails. He co-developed MHALA's Milestones of Recovery Scale (MORS), a tool to helps gauge where a person is at in the recovery process. Most recently, Dr. Pilon completed a lengthy process that began years ago that will provide the City of Long Beach and its residents who live with mental illness and with low to no income with a new Integrated Wellness Center. In the new center, mental and physical health care and other needed services will be provided under one roof. This approach to care will help MHALA address the glaring 25-year gap in life expectancy for people living with mental illness, due (in part) to unnecessary barriers to primary health care.
