Dr. Terrell Morgan, Director of Summer Seminars Abroad for Spanish Teachers, is pleased to announce the program's 30th year and 15th location, Montevideo.

This program, supported by CLAS and the Dept. of Spanish & Portuguese, will take place July 5-21, 2022. As every year, the program is a workshop in Spanish linguistics specially designed for Spanish teachers. Participants have the opportunity to analyze and practice the Spanish language in a natural linguistic and cultural context and to receive graduate university credit for that experience.

This year's instructors will include Dr. Morgan (OSU) and Dr. Barbara Schmidt-Rinehart (Ashland University), with guest lectures by CLAS Assistant Director Dr. Mark Hoff.

Introducing IPAST in Curitiba!

The Intensive Portuguese Abroad for Spanish Teachers program will be held for the first time July 5-25, 2022 in Curitiba, Brazil.

Led by CLAS Director Dr. Scott Schwenter, IPAST is designed primarily for Spanish teachers, though application is open to graduate students with at least intermediate knowledge of Spanish and a strong interest in Portuguese.

The three-week institute will feature intensive language instruction by the Federal University of Paraná and a Spanish-Portuguese contrastive linguistics seminar by Dr. Schwenter.

OSUCHiLL Deadline Extension

The organizers of the Ohio State University Congress on Hispanic & Lusophone Linguistics have extended their abstract submission deadline until February 15.

The conference will be free, held viritually on March 25-26, and will feature keynote speakers Dr. Naomi Lapidus Shin (University of New Mexico) and Dr. Sandro Sessarego (University of Texas at Austin).

Any research on Hispanic, Lusophone, Indigenous, or Creole linguistics, written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese is welcome. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words and are to be submitted via EasyAbs here.
