Healthy and Allergen-Free
Holiday Baking

Yes, it's true: "healthy" and "holiday baking" can be used in the same sentence and we're going to prove it at 10:00 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 23 when we bring  Paula Castner here to help you with your holiday baking.  She'll teach you how to adapt your favorite baked recipes to accommodate almost any food need you and your family have.  She'll also show how to substitute ingredients in recipes to create desserts which not only are healthier for you but delicious tasting, too.

Castner has decades of familiarity with food allergies and experience with hypoglycemic and diabetic requirements. She has spent years discovering and perfecting the best ways to make cakes, cookies, breads, and more which meet a variety of dietary needs but also satisfy the desire for something tasty and sweet.

There will be desserts for sampling and handouts to bring home.  Please register to help make sure there is enough for everyone.  Call 508/946-2470 or email Libby Fox at lfox@sailsinc.org.

A Celtic Christmas
with Jeff Snow

On Wed., Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m., the Library will be filled with the sounds of "A Celtic Christmas."  The concert will combine songs, tunes, history and stories from England, Ireland and Scotland with the music of Christmas. Familiar, and some not so familiar, songs will have you singing, laughing and wishing for more when it's all over.

Jeff Snow is a multi-instrumentalist who shares the music, and the stories behind the music, of Scotland, Ireland and England. Growing up in a home where old Scottish folk songs were the everyday sounds, Snow developed an early love for Celtic music. Much of the history of these lands was preserved in song.  Snow's music has been described as "quiet and relaxing," and while much of it is, he'll periodically let loose and foot stomping will begin.  He plays the guitar, autoharp and bouzouki. He can also find his way around a drum set and most of the percussion family.

Thanks to the Friends of the Middleborough Library for sponsoring this performance. No registration is required.

This Month's Marvelous Museum Pass

Ellis D. Atwood gave this historic amusement park its name from his initials (E.D.A). He started the railroad in the mid-1940s by purchasing most of the surviving equipment from Maine's once expansive network of two-foot gauge rails and had them trucked south to Carver.

He eventually built a 5.5-mile-long railroad around his cranberry bogs and  plantation of cranberries. He used the trains to service his bogs as well as hauling paying customers through the plantation for sightseeing. This operation evolved into a "Family Fun Park" with an emphasis on carnival type rides, bright lights and extravagant Christmas displays. Edaville Railroad became a local institution, and drew visitors from far and wide.

In 2002,  Jon Delli Priscoli purchased Edaville and its 250 acres, and made many improvements including the reconfiguration of the entire rail course and the incorporation of vintage amusement rides.  In 2015, Thomas Land was added with new rides and a stage show, bringing the fictional village of Sodor to life.

Please note --due to popularity and limited offerings, this pass is restricted to one reservation per Middleborough household, per day.  It a dmits one person for free. ( Special events require an additional fee. )  It's a disposable pass and does NOT need to be returned to the Library.

Please check th Edaville website   fo r current hours and updated information, as hours vary depending on the season.

Thanks to the Friends of the Middleboro Public Library for providing the funding for this pass and many others.
