#JusticeforGeorgeFloyd
The man who killed George Floyd was recently found guilty of second-degree murder. This man, Derek Chauvin, also happens to be a police officer and was on the job while he killed Mr. Floyd.
While it is a breath of good news that one police officer was held accountable for his actions, it doesn't change the system. Black people, especially with disabilities, are still without protection from being killed in the community by those charged to protect- even here in Connecticut. Justice for one needs to change to Justice for all. So we recognize that the work is not done.
From NAACP's Website:
NAACP is working to gather people to support the end to the horrors of police brutality and a criminal justice system that fails to properly hold law enforcement officials accountable is long overdue.
Founded in 1909 in response to the ongoing violence against Black people around the country, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation.
Join the NAACP in a call to:
- End qualified immunity, which protects government officials from lawsuits seeking monetary damages
- Collect data on police encounters that will provide transparency and safety for our communities
Sign the petition below to amplify the need for these critical reforms.
