The Northeast District will be offering an online Beef Webinar Series. The sessions will be held online through zoom from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on the following days:

Wildlife Webinar Series
NC Cooperative Extension in Granville, Vance, Franklin, Warren, and Person Counties are sponsoring a series of on-line seminars on Wildlife Management for landowners and farmers. The dates and topics are:
  • September 4 – Fallow Vegetation and Native Plantings: Managing Habitat for Wildlife and Pollinators – John Isenhour, NC Wildlife Resources Commission
  • September 11 – Invasive Plant Control and Forest Management to Benefit Wildlife – John Isenhour, NC Wildlife Resources Commission

Med Instead of Meds
Interested in eating the Mediterranean way, but not sure where to start? N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County and Davidson County Centers are offering an Online Med Instead of Meds class series that will help you “Go Med” by exploring 7 Simple Steps to eating the Med Way. Learn Med tips, life hacks, and recipes that will help you eat the Med Way every day. Eating the Med Way has been proven to protect against chronic illness. In some cases, eating the Med Way may even result in decreasing medications taken for blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, hence the name, Med Instead of Meds.

Online Med Instead of Meds is a virtual, six session series focused on eating a healthy, Mediterranean-style eating pattern (a.k.a. eating the Med Way). The sessions will be delivered live through Zoom every Wednesday, September 9-October 14, from 12-1 p.m. Classes will focus on the simple steps to eating the Med Way. Each session will explore 1 or 2 of these steps, a mindfulness skill, and features Med Way recipes.

Forages for Poultry
Join us on Thursday, September 10 at 1 p.m. for the Forages in Poultry Pastures in the Piedmont of NC virtual webinar. Dr. Ken Anderson, NCSU Extension Poultry Specialist, will discuss forages for poultry - what to plant and when. He will also cover pasture management - including pasture rotation and stocking rates.
Making the Most Out of Bulk Sales Opportunities
For the past year, NC Choices has been rolling out two new resources for North Carolina farms selling meat. These resources are particularly timely as the pandemic has driven an increasing number of consumers to seek local meat and to stock up on supplies. We'll introduce the Meat Price & Yield Calculator, an easy to use online tool to test and adjust your prices and ensure a profit whenever you sell meat. The calculator uses your farm’s data to develop pricing that covers production, processing, and marketing costs, including the value of your time. Also learn about adding your farm to the MeatSuite directory of NC farms selling meat in bulk quantities. MeatSuite is a free website that helps consumers find your farm and ”fill their freezer.”

This will be held on September 15 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.

Cooperative Extension in Warren & Franklin Counties is hosting a Farm Business Webinar Series. The sessions will be held online through zoom from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on the following days:

- October 1 - Present Use Value
- October 8 - Record Keeping/Quickbooks
- October 15 - Risk Management
Sheep & Goat Webinar Series
Are you considering raising sheep or goats? Have you recently gotten sheep or goats and need to learn more? N.C. Cooperative Extension will be offering an online series for new and beginning producers.

  • During this introductory session, you will learn the difference between sheep and goats and their purposes. We will discuss meat vs dairy vs fiber and which one may be the right fit for your operation. 

  • If you plan to raise livestock, you need to have appropriate fencing and facilities. It will look different on every farm, but there are some basics you must consider. We will discuss pasture layout, fencing, and working facilities.

  • Knowing what and how much to feed your animal is paramount to helping to keep them healthy. Nutrient requirements change based on the animals’ stage of production. Join us for this session to gain an understanding of how to feed your animal to its potential.

The series will be offered through Zoom. All sessions will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. EST. Registration for each event is separate. Click on the above links to register for the sessions you want to participate in.
Question. Persuade. Refer (QPR)
Say "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

Agribusiness professionals, agriculture lenders and bankers, veterinarians, vet techs, commodity group members, producers, social service professionals, and concerned others can register at NO COST for any of these programs.

Trainings will be held every Tuesday at 1 p.m. through zoom through October.
Financial Resources for COVID Relief for NC Agribusinesses
The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics and NC State Extension compiled a list of organizations that are offering aid and loan programs for those in the agriculture industry who have been financially impacted by COVID-19. The list includes county-level programs as well as state and federal funds.
