Six NUSD schools receive state recognition for positive campus culture
|
|
Congratulations to the staff and students of our six NUSD schools that received state recognition for their successful efforts in providing a positive school culture for students. These schools are among the top schools in the state being honored for implementing the core features of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports) and
creating the conditions to maximize academic and social-behavioral outcomes for ALL students.
Great job Natomas Middle School, Natomas Park Elementary, and Two Rivers Elementary School for being awarded the California PBIS Coalition's System distinguished Gold level, Jefferson School and Natomas High School Silver level, and Witter Ranch Elementary Bronze level. These schools will be recognized at the annual PBIS Coalition Conference in October and presented with a seal that signifies their demonstrated excellence in implementing PBIS on their campuses.

Ready for first phase of projects funded under Measure L
|
NUSD is getting one step closer to beginning the first phase of projects funded under Measure L, the $172 million school facilities bond supported and passed last November by the Natomas community to provide 21st-century learning environments for students. The Board of Trustees approved the first issuance of Measure L, totaling $59.8 million in projects, at its August 14, 2019 meeting.

NUSD unveils brand new Building and Construction Trades building
|
|
Natomas Unified School District celebrated the grand opening of the Building Construction Trades Pathway building on Friday, August 30. The brand new building is home to one of two new pathways in the district. This pathway, in particular, is open to all NUSD high school students to provide greater access to more students.

Discovery student Valerie Smalls is NUSD's new Student Trustee
|
|
The newest edition to the Natomas Unified School District Board of Trustees is passionate about history and dedicated to becoming a middle school history teacher. Valerie Smalls, a student at Discovery High School, was sworn in on August 28th as a Student Trustee for the 2019-20 school year. We look forward to Valerie and the unique student perspective that she will bring as the newest member of the Board of Trustees.
Valerie has already gotten a jumpstart on making her dream of being a teacher come true. During the summer, she enrolled at American River College and completed two courses for college credit. When she's not studying, she enjoys doing volunteer work and spending time with her family. Welcome aboard!

Consider Diverse Future Teacher Program

Have an interest in teaching? We are looking for NUSD alumni who are in their final stages of earning their bachelor's degree and considering a career in education to apply to Natomas Unified's Diverse Future Teacher program. We are also looking for current district employees with a bachelor's degree who plan to pursue their teaching credential. If you know of anyone who is interested in a career in education with their bachelor's degree, please share this information with them and this link for further information.

Building a foundation for success starts in Preschool
Natomas Unified's free half-day State Preschools is operated during the school year (August-May). These preschools are led by credentialed teachers and provide developmentally appropriate experiences. The program's focus is on creating a strong academic foundation and social-emotional skills to prepare students for future school success.
