RE Reflections
Eva Newbold, Director
This year, our
summer RE theme is
Around the World in 10 Sundays
. During RE each Sunday, we will focus on a different country around the world and we’ve asked members of the congregation to volunteer. So far, we’ve learned about Ireland, Italy, Poland, Kenya and
Macedonia! And we still have four more Sundays of summer RE! Each week has been new and interesting with volunteers bringing in pictures, souvenirs, food, and teaching the kids songs and games from around the world. It has been such a joy.
I love that each week has been taught by different members of the congregation and it has been so nice to see so many different faces volunteering to assist with RE. Thank you so much to everyone who has volunteered this summer! Volunteering to share your experiences is an invaluable contribution to RE and I can’t thank everyone enough.
This summer’s lessons also transition well into our theme for RE next year, when we will use the
UUA’s
Building Bridges
curriculum, which is an interfaith exploration. I hope that RE this summer and RE next year will teach tolerance and respect. I hope the children of our church will leave more curious, ready to explore the world, and ready to embrace the uniqueness that can be found in each of us.

- Paint ceiling grid and installation of new panels
- Paint walls and woodwork
- Miscellaneous - there's always something to do to help.

SOUND SYSTEM UPDATE
Thanks to everyone for their patience during the transition from our old, aging audio system to new, state-of-the-art digital equipment. Our new microphones replaced some that used wireless channels recently declared “illegal” by the FCC. The new system improves the overall sound quality for Sunday morning services -- which is especially important since recordings are broadcast on our community radio station, WRUU. In addition, we now have expanded audio capability for concerts, film screenings and other special events.
Our existing equipment for the hearing-impaired works well with the new audio system. Depending on an individual’s hearing loss – and, whether or not they wear a hearing aid -- they may require different types of earphones… and several styles are now available. If you require hearing assistance -- please check with one of the Greeters in the Narthex before the service. If you are considering purchasing your own supplemental “hearing-assist” equipment – please contact sound coordinator Gordon Webb for advice before you buy. Incompatible equipment may not work with our new system – causing feedback in your ears, etc.
We’re looking for volunteers interested in assisting with Sunday morning sound requirements. Our new system requires minimal training for adjusting microphones and recording the service for broadcast on WRUU.
