TODAY: DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION WEBINAR
THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 2020
11:30AM - 1:00PM EASTERN

Inclusive journalism is more than diversity on-air – it is really about how journalists work to intentionally cover minority communities fairly. Journalists must challenge themselves to recognize their own implicit bias and learn to mitigate it, avoid perpetuating dangerous negative racial stereotypes, and produce journalism that is inclusive and reflective of the whole community they serve.
Empathy is a powerful journalistic tool that helps us learn how others see the world and understand how they feel about it.
This 90-minute webinar is relevant for all staff in television and radio newsrooms. Presented by Kevin Benz of KevinBenz.News and Sara Fahim of Run with the Wolves, the session uses real examples and engaging exercises to explore issues related to implicit bias, covering minority communities, the news relationship with law enforcement, and having difficult newsroom conversations about race and inclusion with respect and understanding.
This webinar is available at no cost for members of the IBA, KBA and OAB, but pre-registration is required.
FEDERAL LETTERS GRANTING ACCESS TO FACILITIES, FUEL AND DEBRIS REMOVAL
As Tropical Storm Laura makes her way inland and ultimately into Kentucky this weekend, the Department of Homeland Security has issued new disaster recovery/restoration letters allowing broadcasters access to facilities and fuel should the storm cause damage here in the Kentucky. A third letter allows for debris removal.

Our hope is that you will not need these letters, but we are equipping you with them in the event that you may need them.

A delegation of "masked" KBA Board members and KBA staff visited Jamestown last Friday to present Jeff Hoover with a special Board resolution recognizing his service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The resolution recognized Jeff's 24 years as a State Representative, the longest serving Republican legislative leader in Kentucky history and serving as the first Republican House Speaker in a century. The resolution also recognized Jeff's parents, Welby and Mae Hoover, who started the first FM station in Russell County in 1966, which Jeff currently owns, operates and hosts a weekly talk show.
