Thursday, August 15, 7-8:30 p.m.
Library
Our next selection is
The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. The book club discussion will be led by Rabbi Lisa and Lisa Meltzer Penn. This book is not part of the Jewish Community Library System so all participants should find copies in their public libraries, a local bookstore or on Amazon.
From
Goodreads:
“
The Interestings explores the meaning of talent; the nature of envy; the roles of class, art, money, and power; and how all of it can shift and tilt precipitously over the course of a friendship and a life.
The summer that Nixon resigns, six teenagers at a summer camp for the arts become inseparable. Decades later the bond remains powerful, but so much else has changed. In
The Interestings, Wolitzer follows these characters from the height of youth through middle age, as their talents, fortunes, and degrees of satisfaction diverge. ”
The Book Club’s next book will be
The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish, which is a long book, so readers are encouraged to get started on it as soon as possible.

Rodfei Tzedek/Pursuing Justice
Summer Launch of Research Options
|
We had a great meeting on Wednesday, June 19 where we laid out a plan to research five issues that resonate strongly with our PTBE community, as identified in our listening campaign: immigrant rights, climate change, criminal justice, gun violence prevention and mental health.
We recognize that social justice campaigns are most effective when they are done in partnership. After conducting exploratory meetings with potential community partners, we'll bring the findings back to our larger community and make a decision together about which opportunity is the best fit.
If you missed the meeting, but have ideas, connections, contacts, and enthusiasm, and want to participate in this phase, it is
NOT TOO LATE TO GET INVOLVED!

Reminder: All regular SFC meetings will be held at the PJCC on Wednesdays.
July 24: Jack Convery

July 31: Joy Perrin: Songs You Forgot You Remembered!
Joy Perrin
weaves in funny stories and music trivia with songs from the ‘30s, ‘40s, and ‘50s, plus old Yiddish favorites. She is a one-woman band, singing along with her guitar and drum sound system. You’re invited to reminisce, laugh, and sing along too!
The PJCC will drive those in need of transportation, either from your home in San Mateo County or from PTBE, which leaves by 11:35 a.m. (or once everyone who has registered is on the vehicle). Please call Nena at 650.378.2750 to register for transportation from home or from PTBE. For program information, call SFC Club President Zara Jaffe at 650.342.1627.
