Do you have a 6th grader this year? TONIGHT  (September 5) is our Outdoor Ed Parent Informational Meeting, 6:30-7:30pm, in the cafeteria (please use the cafeteria doors to enter/exit). The Outdoor Ed Trip is an overnight field trip to  Stone Canyon Outdoor Edventures that our 6th graders participate in annually. The trip will take place October 23-25.

Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night

Please come to Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night on Tuesday, September 10 at 6pm, to learn more and sign up for volunteering! We will have full day and half day options throughout the school year and would love to have the BEST turnout ever.

Watch D.O.G.S. is about providing a "father figure" in the classroom and around our school. We set a great example for our students to emulate, assist children with school work and social development, so they leave school happy and excited to come back. It also provides faculty an extra set of eyes in keeping our school safe and secure .

Please don't hesitate to reach out to Drew Storevik (310-753-1188) or Mike Truskowski (720-445-2965) with any questions or if you want to volunteer prior to September 10.

Middle School Hoodies

The middle school hoodies are ready for order!  These hoodies may be worn in school by students in grades 5-8 (with the exception of formal days). This is the same design as last year with an updated date. If you ordered a hoodie last year and it is still in good repair, your student is welcome to continue wearing the 2018-19 hoodie.

This year's hoodie order will close on September 12 around 2pm. The hoodies should be shipped to our school at the end of September/beginning of October.

Here is the link for the middle school hoodie order information. Please reach out to Amanda Neubert with any questions.

Count Day

Wednesday, October 2 is Count Day ! Our goal is perfect attendance on this day! Please make every effort to send your child to school on October 2. Our school funding is based off of the number of students present on Count Day.  In order to encourage perfect attendance, October 2 will be a Spirit Wear Day . Students may wear jeans, shorts, or athletic pants with their spirit wear t-shirts or t-shirts/polos in our school colors (blue and green).
Thanks for  your support!

PTO Updates

PTO Meeting. We're looking forward to seeing you at our first PTO meeting of the year, Sept 12 at 6pm in the school cafeteria. The format of our meetings will change a bit this year. We'll have less meetings overall (4 in total) and each one will focus on a theme important to parents. September's theme is "What's new with benchmark assessments and literacy?" There will be experts there to answer questions and guide discussion on this important beginning-of-the-year topic. A light dinner will be available if you need to come straight from work or activities. Please note that you're "going" on the event in the PTO Facebook Group. See you there!

Spirit Night. Tuesday Sept 17 from 4-8pm at Cold Stone! This is the one families look forward to all year. Come out to Spirit Night at Cold Stone and eat a yummy treat while helping the school. Cold Stone will donate 25% of the proceeds to WCA and you might just see your favorite Teachers serving ice cream!

Fall Festival. Mark your calendars for the morning of Saturday, November 2. We're shaking up the community and fundraising efforts this year, with a pancake breakfast for the whole family. We're THANKful for all of you and what you do to support the school and our teachers. It will be a fun event to ring in the season of thankfulness. Stay tuned for more information and how you can be involved!

Box Tops are going digital. If you haven't already, please download the Box Tops app and register. This allows you to be able to scan your eligible purchases and ensures that the school gets credit. No more cutting out box tops! On that note, if you happen to have current, non-expired box tops sitting at home, we'll still take them. You can send them in with your child and have them give the box tops to a teacher. We'll be doing one last mail submission with what we receive.

Shopping for Groceries = FREE $$ for WCA.
King Soopers - shopping and earning money for the school has never been easier. Log onto your account at Kingsoopers.com or on the app. Under the Community Rewards section, indicate that you want your donations to go to World Compass Academy. It's as simple as that. Nothing else you need to other than shop and 5% of your purchase will come back to WCA.

Safeway - if you prefer to shop at Safeway, we have rewards cards that credit the school for each dollar you load and then spend. If you would like one, our treasurer Ashley Lenihan can sell you one ($5 for a $5 loaded card). Reach out to her at [email protected].

Announcements

Parent Teacher Conferences.
K-4 Conferences will be held during the week of September 16-19. Stay tuned for further information and sign-ups for conference dates/times.

Safety Update for Carline.
Thank you to everyone who has been helping us maintain safety during drop-off and pickup by having their students exiting and entering vehicles on the curbside only. Remember, if you would like your student to load your vehicle on the driver's side, please use the east side of the building. If you would like your student to load your vehicle on the passenger's side, please use the front of the building.

Formal Uniform Day. Students are required to wear formal uniforms on the first Tuesday of every month. We are a Charter of which requires our families to purchase a formal uniform and want to ensure that we wear them on a regular basis. When students are in their formal uniforms, boys will be required to tuck in their shirts. When casual uniforms are worn, polo shirts may be tucked in or worn out - either way.

Dress Code Reminder. Please read the dress code policies on our website. As the weather begins to change, please ensure that all hats/gloves/sweaters/jackets are labeled.

Visitor Check-In Policy . We welcome visitors at WCA! It is our policy that visitors must check-in at the front office and be entered into our Raptor system. Proof of identification will be required in the form of a driver's license for each visit to the school. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.

Attendance Line & Drop Off.  Please call the Attendance Line at 303-814-5280 by 8:00am  if your child will be tardy or absent.   If you do not see a carpool attendant outside when you drop-off, please come inside to the front office to sign your child in; otherwise, he/she will be marked with an unexcused tardy. If you don't call the Attendance Line to let us know that your child will be tardy or absent, parents will receive an automated call from DCSD. Thank you for your cooperation! If you have any questions, please contact  Stefanie Bender .

Volunteering at WCA . We love our WCA volunteers! We ask that each family volunteer  15 hours  per school year. The volunteer requirement needs to be completed by the end of the school year. View more information about volunteering  HERE.
