2019 Fall Learning Series
The Friends of the Eldredge Public Library present 17 courses for their 2019 Fall Learning Series Program. These courses, taught by local experts (and some local celebrities), range from two to six weeks, and are offered for a $15 donation. The brochure and registration form are available for download and at the library.

Anthony Amore

We are delighted to announce that Anthony Amore , the Director of Security at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, will be the speaker for the Friends of EPL Edna May Hardy Speaker Series.

Mr Amore will be speaking on the topic, “Stealing Rembrandts” and will address the three most important art heists in history, all of which occurred here in Massachusetts. 

His talk will take place in the Forgeron Room of the Library on Sunday, September 8 at 3:00, and the suggested donation is $10.00 at the door with all proceeds going to support the Friends of the Eldredge Public Library.
 
Thanks to Yellow Umbrella Bookstore, two of his books, Stealing Rembrandts: The Untold Stories of Notorious Art Heists   and  The Art of the Con: The Most Notorious Fakes, Frauds, and Forgeries in the Art World, will be available for sale following his talk.
New FEPL Board is Hard at Work
The summer is winding down and autumn is fast approaching. It is the beginning of a “new year” for the Friends of the Eldredge Public Library (FEPL). The FEPL Board is committed to fulfilling their mission of providing those “extras” that make our Library the special place it is.

All of the Board members and volunteers’ contributions are significant and I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication. Our board members work behind the scenes to make it all happen. From the booksale to hospitality, from programming to membership, and Learning Series to Ways and Means, we are lucky to have so many library supporters!

I am always astounded during my two-hours of volunteering on Tuesdays at the front desk with the quantity of people (many summer residents and vacationers) who utilize the Library and who are helped by the courteous and hard-working staff. Many of these visitors are already Friends of the Eldredge Public Library even though they live in various places around the country.

I encourage everyone to visit and utilize the Library’s services and become a Friend. If you already are a Friend, make sure to renew your membership! We appreciate your support. Thank you!

Ready to Jump into Fall
Another great summer at the EPL! It was nice to see so many of our returning summer patrons. Many times I heard, "We just got to the Cape and came straight to the Library to get our books."
We welcomed many new patrons, some who just wandered in off the street to enjoy a puzzle, read a magazine or play a game of chess. And of course we always enjoy seeing our year-round patrons!
The Children's Room was full of activity with little ones to teens, along with their parents and grandparents. I can't help but smile when a tantrum is thrown because a child doesn't want to leave the Library.

We hosted amazing programs this summer, and I am so excited about the authors and programs coming this fall. Please visit our Upcoming Programs to see a list of upcoming events and mark your calendar. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. Do you know someone who doesn't have a CLAMS card ? A new neighbor or a new student? Getting a card is easy, the possibilities of what that card can offer, is endless.

And, it's a wrap!
The first day of school is just around the corner, and we have so many things in the works for children and teens in Youth Services during the upcoming months. But first, let’s officially put summer behind us with a recap of all the fun we had celebrating the 50 th anniversary of the Lunar Landing during our CSLP summer reading campaign, A Universe of Stories .

Thanks to the generous support of the Friends, Youth Services offered close to 100 programs for children and teens during July and August. From storytimes and puppet shows to Escape Rooms and an on-site miniature golf tournament, we were busy every day throughout the summer. In addition, our play alcove – another project supported by the Friends – was the hub of excitement as it transformed from a Pizzeria to a Space Station.

Pastoral bereavement counselor Pamela Koch recently published an inspiring account of one support group's journey to facing their grief and finding answers in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Dr. Melanie P. Merriman will share her personal story and lead a discussion about how to prepare for the challenges of aging and family caregiving.

Stephen Puleo, author of  Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919 , will visit the Eldredge Public Library to discuss his book and the remarkable flood story itself in this 100th anniversary year .
Your continued support allows us to fund those services and projects that are beyond the regular operating budget of the library.
The Friends’ Bargain Book Sale is still going strong. Choose a bestseller that you missed or an old favorite and enjoy the beach with a good book.
