PRESENTATION

   Legal Link

Legal Link's Clergy Justice Project

The legal system is severely under-resourced and inherently complex. The majority of low-income individuals do not get the right help at the right time. 86% of the civil legal problems reported by low-income Americans in the past year received inadequate legal help, and our state has one free attorney for every 7,000+ qualifying Californians. As a result, communities in need of legal support - for things like evictions, custody disputes, or immigration concerns - are often unable to access the legal remedies available to help them break the cycle of poverty. Recent research shows that what people need is not always a lawyer, but a trusted person with an ability to navigate procedures, rules, and resources. Founded in 2015, Legal Link created the first Legal First Aid training program to train trusted community members to help fill this critical gap. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with San Francisco faith-based organizations and to bring our Legal First Aid program to your congregations. We look forward to kicking off our work together at the September SFIC breakfast.
