Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator,

It was wonderful to meet so many of you at our last Parish Pro-Life Coordinator meeting. I am in awe of the dedication and passion for pro-life that was so evident in our conversations. You inspire me!

October is Respect Life Month in the Catholic Church and plans are underway to commemorate the month with a host of opportunities to enhance awareness of and activism in our critical ministry.

But before we launch into October, there are some upcoming activities this month that your parishioners will definitely want to know about.

Mark your calendar for the 40 Days for Life Kickoff Rally on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at Gaston Christian Center to hear the latest pro-life news and top five ways to be a passionate and persuasive pro-life advocate! And if you haven't already, be sure to reserve your parish's day of prayer outside Southwestern abortion facility . The presence of your parish family can help save lives!! Check out prolifedallas.org/40days for more details.

BLESSED JOHN HENRY NEWMAN
During Respect Life Month, we will celebrate the feast day of Blessed John Henry Newman, the 19th-century's most important English-speaking Roman Catholic theologian. He spent the first half of his life as an Anglican and the second half as a Roman Catholic. He was a priest, popular preacher, writer, and eminent theologian in both Churches.

Historical research made Newman suspect that the Roman Catholic Church was in closest continuity with the Church that Jesus established. In 1845, he was received into full communion as a Catholic. Two years later he was ordained a Catholic priest in Rome.

When Newman was named a cardinal in 1879, he took as his motto "Cor ad cor loquitur" -- "Heart speaks to heart." He passed away a little over a decade later. After his passing , a Newman Club for Catholic students began at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In time, his name was linked to ministry centers at many colleges and universities in the United States.

Let us be inspired by beatified Newman's zeal for the most vulnerable, and the incredible impact that the Catholic centers that bear his name have on youth across our country.

God Bless,

Hector Carrasco
