NEWS AND INFORMATION
Building Habits (BH):
Starting the year right means getting into healthy habits from the get-go. Check back weekly to learn ways to help your family gear up for student success all around campus!

Read much?  Of COURSE you do! Most of our reading as adult people is with regard to work or living, rather than escaping into a good novel. We read all the time! However, do our children see us reading? Do they realize how important reading is for our daily lives? Even with podcasts, video-everything...there is still an important need for reading.

“I feel the need...for speed!” is a movie quote that will absolutely clarify that I am over 50 years old now. (Top Gun... https://tinyurl.com/kmr25b5 ) What would happen if we used this, slightly changed, to point out when we are reading to our kids? “I see the need...the need to READ!” Start thinking about where you are reading. Point this out to your kids. Make it a game with younger ones: When they point out where or when you are reading, tally a family point that will eventually get you to La Michoacana for ice-cream.

·        ·
We’ve started our Fall Fundraiser and your involvement is needed more than ever! We would love to make this our ONLY product fundraiser this school year, which is possible with your help! We are trying to raise $8,000 – which will go to support the PTSL’s annual budget (which pays for family fun events throughout the year) – and also to help sponsor technology upgrades for the school.

Please share your child’s catalog with friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors or have them register to purchase online at www.shopfund.com . As your child sells 1, 4, 7, or 9 items, please have them turn in a coupon to receive their Squishy Sidekick or middle school pass and be entered into a Daily Prize Drawing! If anyone does not wish to purchase product but would like to donate, each $12 donation counts towards a “special prize” credit. Donations can be turned in separately through the donation envelope inside your packet (do not record donations on your order form).

Turn-in date for Fall Fundraiser is Thursday, September 12 th . Please don’t hesitate to contact Candy Chatchaiyan at (323) 842-0136 if you have any questions or concerns about the Fundraiser.

Friday, September 13 th is LEGO Star Wars Family Night from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Come join us in your favorite Star Wars costume (if you have one)and watch as our kids utilize their creative skills to build LEGO masterpieces. There will also be motorized Battletracks for more interactive fun and Duplos available for the little ones! Please join us for dinner also! Complete the attached order form and return to school office by Monday September 9 th .

Book Fair sales calculations are in! Unfortunately, we did not reach our goal of $2,500 this time around. But we greatly appreciate the support of those who came out to buy books! Total sales including sales tax was $934. This amount includes $196 in gift certificates that PTSL sponsored for teachers to purchase books for their class. The total amount we will be receiving in profit is $260 in Scholastic Dollars. These Scholastic Dollars will be used to purchase new books for the library.

Congratulations to Jackson Venator, who was the winner of the guessing game at the PTSL table at the Ministry Fair!!! He was the lucky winner of a $50 Game Stop Scrip card. Good job Jackson!

Volunteers Needed

Consider joining the Children’s Ministry Sunday School Team. We are looking for adult volunteers on Sundays for the 10 am worship service, to teach the Children’s Message followed by a craft/snack. The Children’s message will be pre-made along with all the snacks or crafts needed. All you do is walk the children from the church during the Sermon to another room, read the message and follow the directions for the craft/snack, make sure the room is cleaned up and then walk the children back to Church to sit with their parents. All of this will be about 15-20 minutes of your time and you will receive a one hour credit of parent participation time. We encourage you to sign up with a friend as working in a team is more fun. You may read the message ahead of time through email or picking up a copy in the school office. You may sign up for just one Sunday during the year or you can be on a rotation of once a month for example such as the second Sunday of each month.
If you would like additional parent hours but prefer to work at home, we are looking for someone to be in charge of making a schedule the volunteers for each month and giving a weekly reminder to the volunteers of their upcoming commitment. Write in your email or phone number and Mrs. Tordil will contact you if you are interested. Great way to earn parent hours, receive 1 hour for 20 minutes of FUN with the kids! For more information Email Mrs. Tordil or call at 714-535-3600 ext. 410
