Greetings Daves Avenue Families,
Thank you for attending Back-to-School Night. By now, you likely have a better understanding of your child’s academic and social-emotional pathway for the 2019-2020 school year. If you have additional questions about how to best support your child, please contact your child’s teacher. I know all staff members would be happy to answer questions and co-create a plan to ensure a successful partnership this year. In order to maximize learning, we need all Cool Cats to be at school daily, on-time, and stay for the duration of the school day. Student truancy can result in a negative effect on a child’s success in school. Please think about ways in which your family can help contribute to improved attendance.
Our partnership and your support is truly essential in order to maintain the resources, enrichments, programs and staff to support the students at Daves Avenue. Thank you to all families who have already donated to Dollars for Daves and the Los Gatos Education Foundation (LGEF). It is because of YOU that our students thrive.

I am looking forward to “Tweeting” regularly to give families insight to the instruction and experiences taking place on campus. Please consider following me at PAWSPrincipal on Twitter to enjoy our collective learning journey this year. Science experiments, design thinking in action, art projects, students showing their PAWS (Peaceful, Aware, Wise, Safe) and classroom libraries are examples of what has been tweeted out so far. This morning, we had our monthly Wednesday Wave assembly where all students who have earned character cards had a chance to have their name drawn to become a part of the “PAWS Club”. I look forward to tweeting about our lucky five students from today 😊. We are committed to encouraging and celebrating all students to show their PAWS in every area of our school campus.
This Friday morning, I would like to invite you to join our Home & School Club/Strategic Planning meeting beginning at 8:30 A.M. in the MPR.
Have a PAWSitively awesome week!
Best,
Principal, Daves Avenue Elementary School

JOIN THE DAVES AVENUE GREEN TEAM!
|
|
Is Your 3rd-5th Grader Interested in the Environment?
Beginning
September 10th
, the student Green Team meets Tuesdays in the Daves Avenue Garden of Wisdom immediately after school until 3:30 pm. Students get a t-shirt and build friendships while learning to become stewards of the environment. Activities include maintaining the native & sensory garden, conducting science experiments, activism and learning about eco issues in our immediate world, and doing “green” projects around the school. We have had outside speakers, we might get a worm bin, we are building things - it is great!
This year we will focus on planting the seeds of fruits, vegetables and herbs, cultivating them, and enjoying the harvest. We will explore the different ways environmental factors impact the success of our garden
