Week of March 15, 2021

Good Afternoon CCGS Families,

We had another great week of learning at Circle Center Grade School and we really enjoyed the warm weather too. This week while visiting classrooms, I saw our third graders working on equivalent fractions. They were using fraction strips to help them see the larger and smaller pieces. This is a great skill that can be practiced at home while cooking with your children. One of our remote teachers, Ms. Fenstra was able to bake donuts with her students. Check out the picture below of one of her students with her homemade donut!

As a reminder, on 3/19/21 all of our K-3 students have school, but it is an early release day for our p.m. students. School will dismiss at 2:25 p.m. Please plan to watch for buses or arrive to school an hour earlier on this day. Our early childhood students will not attend school.

Additionally, we are excited to be sponsoring a food drive event sponsored by the Kendall County Agriculture in the Classroom event. We will be collecting all foods, but we are particularly asking for cereal boxes of all flavors! Our goal is to have a domino run through the main hallway and both circles. That will take a lot of cereal boxes, but we know we can do it! Please see the flyer below for more information. We also have our Virtual Family Reading night with Mrs. Becker and Mrs. Niner on March 18th. On March 16th we have our virtual author visit and kindergarten registration. It is going to be a very busy week at CCGS!

Please watch our February CCGS video at this link. You can link your March photos to this album. I love seeing the pictures of our remote learners at home, so please continue to add them!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family!

Mrs. Hamm

There are several important flyers and pieces of information below.

Do you know a future CCGS or Y115 kindergarten student? Please share this information with them if you do! We will be handling registration different in the past and each family will go to their home school. We are excited to announce our next author visit! Shelley Johannes, author AND illustrator of the creative series Beatrice Zinker, will be zooming with ALL of our Y115 elementary schools on March 16th! If you'd like to order a book look for the order form that came home this week, and we hope you jump in to our sock puppet fun, too! Create your own one-of-a-kind sock puppet, and then post a photo or video with it to our Padlet at http://bit.ly/3dETCeV by March 15th, and you will be entered into a raffle to win a pre-order of Shelley Johannes's new picture book, More Than Sunny, releasing in May! Congratulations to our yearbook cover winner Kyle G. There are four other students who were chosen to have their yearbook pictures featured on the back cover of the yearbook and they are: Charlotte G., Blake W., Liv N., and Tillman S.

  • When pulling into the rear drive at drop off and pick up times, please only make a right turn into the drive. This allows for cars to safely pass the car line.
  • Remote families: If you are wanting your child to return to school in the fall, this would be the perfect time to begin working on independent skills during live instruction. We have found that our students who have returned from remote learning have struggled with not having an adult right by their side. Please encourage your child to work as independently as possible during this time and on assessments.

Ms. Campbell's Classroom Highlight of the Week

It has been a busy and fun time in Ms.Campbell’s second grade classroom! We have enjoyed learning about our community workers, and each had the opportunity to choose which community worker we would like to be when we grow up. From farmers, to police officers, to nurses, and veterinarians, we have big hopes and dreams to serve our community.

We have been spending time reading to each other, out of our favorite books. This has been a wonderful way to share our favorite stories, and also get recommendations on what we should read next!

After spending time reading various versions of “Jack and the Beanstalk”, we put on our engineer and scientist hats, and did a STEM activity where we created a contraption to protect our golden egg. This was by far our favorite activity this year! Whether a group protected their egg, or brainstormed ways to redesign their contraption and improve it, each group was successful! We look forward to doing more of these in the future.

Lastly, we really enjoyed creating our own ice cream flavors, while showcasing our “awesome alliteration abilities.” Some of our unique flavors were, “Gianna’s Gooey Green Garlic Ice Cream,” “McNamara’s Munchy Mocha” and “Mason’s Magnificent Marshmallow.” What a deliciously, delightful way to learn alliteration!

Look at all the fun learning activities taking place in Ms. Campbell's classroom!
