Description:
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health disorders. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, mental health professionals are reporting an increase in individuals seeking counseling due to anxiety and depression. This training will discuss the role of Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs) in development of anxiety and depression, as well as strategies using Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Play Therapy to manage anxiety. 

Objectives:
  • State the DSM-5 Diagnostic criteria for anxiety
  • Describe common cognitive distortions and the use of CBT & Play Therapy as interventions 
  • Identify strategies for parents to help children manage anxiety

Presenter:
Sonia Hinds is the founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a 501c3 non-profit private practice in Calvert County, providing mental health services to children and families since 2003.
