Virtual Coffee Half-Hour Coming Soon!
A group of parishioners who are involved in the Invite-Welcome-Connect ministry invite you to a Virtual Coffee Half-Hour on Zoom! The event will follow the 10:00 a.m. service, starting at approximately 11:00 a.m. The Coffee Half-Hours will begin on September 6 and continue on the first Sunday of each month.

The event will be highly engaging, with a time for welcome, an ice-breaker, and small group fellowship. This will be a great way to socialize with friends and get to know your fellow parishioners better!

All parishioners will get a link to the Zoom call in an email from John Edgar through Realm on the Thursday morning before the event and on that Sunday morning. We recommend that if you have not already, that you download Zoom before Sunday.

Be on the lookout for the emails, we hope you will join us!

Cornerstone Kids Receive Backpacks
Due to the pandemic and new social distancing requirements, 21 students will go to school with new backpacks and supplies and then come to the after-school program. Thank you St. John’s for your generosity; the goal of $1,500 was well exceeded! I was fortunate to be there when the children dashed past their mothers- with masks on!- to come back to the Parish Hall at St. James House of Prayer and reconnect with the director and several volunteers. Because the program closed down in March and the usual summer program was canceled, the kids are ready to come back. Thanks to everyone who made this effort a success!

A Conversation on Mental Health
This Zoom event will be held Tuesday, September 1, at 4:00 p.m., lasting approximately one hour. St. John's clergy and local mental health professionals will discuss how social crises have impacted mental health and suggest healthy ways for coping. The panel includes Dr. Lawrence Pasman, Elizabeth Reese, LCSW, Caroline LaRosa, LCSW, The Ven. Dr. Kathleen Moore, The Rev. Dr. James Reho, and The Rev. Michael Cannon. Please contact mcannon@stjohnstampa.org for login credentials.
Parish-Wide Survey
On Monday afternoon, we emailed the parish survey to our email list. We mailed paper copies to those families for whom we did not have an email address.

If you have not received a copy of the survey by email or physical mail, please let John Edgar know at jedgar@stjohnstampa.org and he will send you one.

Please be sure to complete your survey by September 13!
EYC is Back!
6th through 12th graders and parents! St John's EYC youth group is coming back in person in just a few weeks! St John’s EYC Kickoff will be a combined EYC for 6th through 12th graders with an Outdoor Game Night on Sunday, September 13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. All of our games will be socially distant (but lots of fun!), and masks are required. Please bring your own chair, water, and dress for messy games! We are so excited to welcome you back.

After September 13, St John's EYC will continue to meet every Sunday afternoon with safe distance and masks required at all times. We will meet most Sundays in the Parish Hall, with an Outdoor EYC on the 1st week of each month (October 4th, November 1st, and December 6th). Middle Schoolers (6th through 8th graders) will meet each week from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and High Schoolers (9th through 12th graders) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. We will not be serving dinner for the near future. There will be individually wrapped snacks and drinks available, but please plan to eat dinner either before or after youth group!
Sunday School News
Stay tuned, news about Sunday School is coming soon!
Sacred Ground: Race and Faith
We are excited to announce that parishioner Leslie Jennewein will be leading a new film-based dialogue series on race and faith called Sacred Ground. The series will be held in a small group limited to 15 people and conducted on Zoom in 10 sessions, meeting every other week beginning September 13.

The small group will be invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories. Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. For more information, visit https://episcopalchurch.org/sacred-ground or contact Leslie by email at ljennewein@gmail.com with questions or to join. Thanks to Leslie for leading!
Women's Mid Morning Bible Study
On Tuesday, September 8, the Women’s Mid Morning Bible Study will begin a fall virtual study of some of the general letters or epistles, so called because they were intended for the early Christian church as a whole, rather than being directed to a specific church, as were those written by the apostle Paul. They will be using the commentary The Early Christian Letters for Everyone: James, Peter, John and Judah by N. T. (Tom) Wright, as their study guide. It will be a virtual class, using St. John’s Zoom, and will begin at 10:00 a.m. to allow time for greeting one another prior to the lesson. The lesson time will be 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Subsequent classes will be on alternate Tuesdays with the final class scheduled on December 1. The class is open to all women in the Parish as well as friends you might like to invite.

More information on how to access the Zoom portal will be available in early September. For more information
regarding the study, contact Pat Wilson at patwilson68@tampabay.rr.com or 245.9562 or Joan McKay at mckayjhm@aol.com.

You can also access the Chapel Book here if you would like to follow along.
