I hope that everyone had a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend following what was a pretty smooth first week of school.  As we near the end of week two, I want to urge parents to begin looking at Power School weekly to help your student stay on track for success by turning in all assignments and studying for tests.  This Friday will be the final day to return their documents that had to be completed, signed, and turned in for their first informal grades in all of their core classes.  This is an easy way to get their grades off to a good start so please double check that your child returns these by tomorrow.

The car rider line is getting shorter as more students ride the bus and fall athletics and other after school activities begin.  I want to encourage parents of car riders to use Mayes Road to Bailey Road and come past Hough High School to help reduce the back-up coming from Rt. 115 to Bailey Road.  This also enables the flow of traffic on Bailey Road to provide access for buses to get to our lot earlier enabling quicker bus dismissal as well. Thanks in advance for helping us improve morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

Concerns with mental health and anxiety issues with teenagers across the country continues to be an ongoing point of discussion as we try to create and promote support structures to help students cope with their struggles.  Next week is "National Suicide Prevention Week" which is sponsored at Bailey by our Counseling Department in hopes to engage students in conversations about how to help themselves and their friends through stressful or difficult situations.  Unfortunately, a growing number of our own students have contemplated or even attempted self-harm as a means to escape their reality.  As parents from a different generation, we don't understand the current pressures our kids face, yet we have the obligation to better understand and help minimize these more readily.  Finally, I would encourage you to reach out to a counselor if you see any drastic social or emotional changes in your Bronco.  This can manifest itself in their mood, online activity, friendships, eating habits, etc.   We can help them see that persevering through tough situations, and even failure, will make them stronger and more resilient when real adult problems arrive in the future.

Create a Great Day,

Principal

A Note from the Bailey PTSA

On behalf of the PTSA, I am delighted to welcome you and your family to Bailey Middle School for the 2019 - 2020 school year.  I hope that these first couple of weeks have gone smoothly and that everyone is settling into the routine of the new school year.

The goal of the PTSA is to enrich each student's experience here at Bailey, while also supporting the school staff and administration, and you, the parents.  We're already hard at work, planning what we know will be another great year full of service and events that help foster community engagement and school spirit. But to be truly successful, we need the help of parents like you. If you haven't already, please visit our website - https://baileymiddleptsa.wixsite.com/mysite to find a list of our standing committees and let us know what you'd like to help with. We'll also post all of our PTSA events and volunteer needs in the Bronco Times. We would love to have each and every family involved.

The PTSA also asks that you consider supporting our various fundraising efforts. This year, we have fundraisers planned for September and March. We'll also be launching our annual direct giving campaign - The Bronco Fund - later in the fall. Last year, through the generosity of our Bailey families, the PTSA was able to not only sponsor various school programs and activities (including The Back to School Picnic, International Night, and Student Recognition and End of Year Celebrations) but also provide school-wide classroom and administrative support to our teachers, counselors and staff members. We also purchased a sun shade for the common outdoor area that will be installed in the weeks ahead.

Your support of the Bailey PTSA and our school community is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.  I look forward to getting to know you and your family as we spend this year together at Bailey!

Best,

Misty Davis
PTSA President, 2019 - 2020
BMS PTSA Fall Fundraiser
Bailey Discount Cards

It's time for the Bailey Fall Fundraiser! Here's how it works. Each student will receive five discount cards to sell to family, friends, and neighbors. The cost of each card is $10, but the savings are worth much more! Students can win prizes and unique experiences by participating in this fundraising effort. For more information, please refer to the handout that will accompany the cards sent home.

If your student sells their cards and needs more, they can check out five additional cards per visit in the media center before school.

If you do not want to participate, or your student does not sell all of their cards, please return them to the school so that they can be re-distributed to other students.

Our three money collection dates are as follows:
Friday, September 20 . Friday, September 27 . Friday, October 4

Please send the money for any cards sold to school with your student in an envelope with their name and homeroom/red block teacher.
