Stand by me: Ryan J. Heist, a U.S. Marine Corps vet, says give me five minutes and I’ll have your VARIDESK up and operable. Sounds like a sales guy, right. But it’s true. Mr. B watched the video, and even in slow motion, Ryan had that ProDesk 60 Electric VARIDESK put together and the motor humming and desk rising to 50 inches in height. You may know the VARIDESK as a sit-stand desktop riser. Did you know VARIDESK is a full manufacturer of office furniture that helps companies create an active workspace that promotes health and productivity? Ryan has a ProDesk 60 for a reader and it features programmable height settings with active-hold buttons for safety, a cable management tray and stability crossbar. Are you in good standing?

Heartfelt: Have you seen Carousel? It is six large, colorful parrots carousel-ing in the roundabout at Mitchell and East Rosedale near Poly (Parrots) High School. Made Mr. B feel a bit artsy while driving, which is better than texting while driving. A day later, Mr. B got a (Wesley) Gentle reminder that the Arts Council of Fort Worth manages Fort Worth Public Art and art isn’t free unless its graffiti. The Arts Council has its 7th Heart of Gold Awards Luncheon Sept. 18 in McDavid Studio at Bass Performance Hall. Heart honoree is Rosalyn G. Rosenthal for her leadership as a philanthropist and dedicated patron of the arts. (She’ll turn 95 Sept. 18…happy Mr. B-day, Rosalyn). Margo Dean, dance all-star among all stars, will receive the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts award for establishing Texas Ballet Theater, Ballet Concerto and a dance studio. B2B has a seat for two readers.
Happy (Mr.) B-day, Trinity Habitat: 30 years old and the (home) livin’ is great. Especially if it were a home built by Trinity Habitat for Humanity. Yes, 30 years and work on 1,800-plus homes. The non-profit has been celebrating several ways during the year, but the best is still to come. Habitat is funding a December build for the Bell family $30 at a time. More than $15k has been raised. And Oct. 5, just a month away, is Backyard Bash , which is a huge party to celebrate the completion of a 30-hour build for Gigi. Habitat’s Sandra Houston dashingly Bashed B2B Insider with two general admission seats that include a Heim BBQ dinner, two drink tickets and seats for the performance of up-and-coming Texas country artist Wynn Williams.
Shoppe-ing with Sharon: For years, The Neeley School of Business - Tandy Executive Speaker Series at TCU has invited prominent business leaders to breakfast events to share their insights, challenges and successes with Dean (He’s a Homer) Erekson. It’s a new school year with a new leader. And next Thursday, Sept. 12, from 7:30-9 a.m., grab a seat as Dean Daniel Pullin (teeth) will interview Sharon Leite, currently CEO and board member of publicly-traded The Vitamin Shoppe. Sharon, a New York and Fort Worth resident, previously has served as President of the Americas for Godiva Chocolatier (she might bring leftover samples), President of Sally Beauty, U.S. and Canada (more samples?), and various roles at Bath and Body Works, Gap Inc., The Walt Disney Company and Pier 1 Imports.
Congratulations to the August 28th

A WORD FROM OUR GOLD SPONSORS
HE SAID, SHE SAID, THEY SAID
chickens_on_grass.jpg
Nearly eggs-tinct: Coyotes, ferals, dogs and varmints aplenty wiped out the chicken community at the ranch in the hinterlands of Cortney Gumbleton, co-founder of Locavore. “I’m down to only one; her name is Henny Penny. No idea how she’s survived. I’m back to buying eggs from the store with everybody else.”
Was there any doubt? Buxton , geniuses at consumer data and predictive modeling, has answered one of the great mysterious of modern times. Where do Chick-fil-A customers eat on Sunday? Buxton has the state-by-state answer. In Texas, it’s … What? A Burger?
You’re killing me up here: This from stand-up pallbearer/comedian Robert Gaudry of Dignity Memorial – “Old funeral jokes are the best; they never die.”
Not in my casa: At a recent luncheon, Fort Worth Assistant City Manager Fernando Costa was wearing a name tag with his first name printed and last name written. He had crossed out Casa and written Costa.
On the docket: Robert Ahdieh, Dean of Texas A&M University School of Law , says the school is in the “business of teaching law, not just the business of training lawyers.” Says he’s enthusiastic about building a community that can provide for students and being in a business of “knowledge creation.” A&M Law also has started a Master’s degree for non-lawyers.
“Greatness happens when hard work and dreams meet.”

Take her to Vegas: Sandi Mitchell , Apex Leadership Mastery, three weeks ago won six months of office space at WeWork in B2B Insider. At the recent Chamber Business After Hours at Encore Live, she again was a winner. This time it was a Pat Green-autographed guitar.
What the heck: Acre Distillery & Coffee House is in the middle of what was once Fort Worth's legendary Hell's Half Acre, an area known for gambling, alcohol and outlaws. Acre has 18 different products, including vodka, gin, bourbon, single malt whiskey, rum, bitters, flavored liqueurs and cordials. Tony Formby, owner, was a former majority stakeholder in Rahr & Sons.
Life beyond leads: As a part of its volunteer community services, the Chamber’s Cowtown Leads Exchange held a FREE lunch and learn last week at the Business Assistance Center. About 30 businesses got their questions answered by representatives from JTaylor, MomentUs Wealth, Shaw Insurance, Financial Additions, HR Additions, Insperity and Aeko Technologies .
Giving credit where credit is due: Lonnie Nicholson, President/CEO of EECU, is Chamber chairman this year. Probably doesn’t hurt Mr. B’s job security if he mentions EECU a bit. EECU. EECU. EECU. There’s also news -- Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed David Shurtz, chief risk officer and general counsel at EECU, to the Credit Union Commission until Feb. 15, 2025.
