Special town hall event: "Let's Go, Colorado"

Colorado's transportation needs have gone unmet for decades. In every corner of our state, we lack the resources to maintain our roads, highways and local bus routes.  That's why I am hosting, along with Rep. Tracy Kraft-Tharp, a special town hall meeting with officials and proponents of the "Let's Go, Colorado" campaign.

Please join us on Saturday, July 14 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm at the Standley Lake Library in Arvada , for a presentation and panel discussion about the potential ballot measure to fund transportation. Tony Milo of the Colorado Contractors' Association will be outline the initiative and answer your questions. He will be joined by Andrew Karsian of CDOT and Mayor Marc Williams of Arvada.

CDOT has more than $9 billion in projects, and that's only part of the issue. Our local communities lack the resources to address congestion, maintain roads and improve safety as well. In order for us to keep up with our state's transportation needs, we must have a sustainable, dedicated funding source to address critical transportation construction, improvements, maintenance and operations.

Please note that this special town hall is one week prior to our regular town hall meeting and at a slightly later time. I hope you will join us!

High cost of housing still a key issue for District

The most frequent concern I hear from constituents in the District is the high cost of housing. Many are struggling with finding places to rent or own that are affordable, and the issue seems to be getting worse.

We passed a number of bills this year aimed at addressing housing, such as:
  1. SB18-007: Affordable Housing Tax Credit
  2. SB18-010Residential Lease Copy And Rent Receipt
  3. HB18-1432: Prohibit Housing Discrimination Source Of Income
  4. HB18-1315Manufactured Home Sales Tax Exemption
And there were a number of bills that could have helped, including my bill  SB18-006, that did not pass, such as:
  1. SB18-120: Time Period For Tenant To Cure Unpaid Rent
  2. HB18-1380: Grants For Property Tax Rent And Heat
  3. HB18-1127Residential Landlord Rental Application
  4. HB18-1021 Task Force For Youth Experiencing Homelessness
A group of concerned citizens have begun working with the City of Arvada to address these issues and have organized the Arvada Housing Resource Fair. It will  take place Saturday, September 29, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the  APEX Community Recreation Center,  6842 Wadsworth Blvd, Arvada. The event is free and open to everyone.

There will be information and resources about  Accessory Dwelling Units, "Aging in Place," financial assistance for low income households, the  Essential Home Repairs program, h ome sharing, first-time home buyer assistance, rental assistance,  and understanding fair housing requirements. I hope you'll mark your calendars now!

Can you help us by making a contribution? While the campaign activity has concluded, we still need your help so that we may continue keeping in touch with constituents.
