What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of proposals that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn coordinates limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady).To apply to any limited submission posted below, click on the above link and search for your competition reflected on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a list of requirements.

The purpose of this program is to support research, education/teaching, and extension projects that increase participation by women and underrepresented minorities from rural areas in STEM. NIFA intends this program to address educational needs, as determined by each institution, within broadly defined areas of food and agricultural sciences
For this program, NIFA will support projects with a target audience of K-14 students (kindergarten through twelfth grade plus two years of post-secondary schooling (e.g., vocational technical institutions or community or junior colleges).
Applications recommended for funding must highlight and emphasize the development of a competent and qualified workforce in the food and agricultural sciences. WAMS-funded projects should improve the economic health and viability of rural communities by developing research and extension initiatives that focus on new and emerging employment opportunities in STEM occupations. Projects that contribute to the economic viability of rural communities are also encouraged.

DOE EPSCoR is a federal-state partnership program designed to:
- Enhance the capabilities of designated jurisdictions to conduct sustainable and nationally competitive energy-related research through increased human and technical resources, including training of scientists and engineers.
- Advance DOE’s overarching mission by supporting early stage research and development for a wide range of topical areas across the Department:
- Office of Science: Accelerators, Advanced Scientific Computing Research, Basic Energy Sciences, Biological and Environmental Research, Fusion Energy Sciences, High Energy Physics, Isotopes, and Nuclear Physics
- Technology Offices: Electricity, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Fossil Energy, and Nuclear Energy
The objectives of the DOE EPSCoR Implementation Grants are to:
- Jumpstart capability development in the jurisdiction(s) through increased human and technical resources.
- Support a group of researchers working on a common scientific theme, with mutually supporting goals and objectives.
- When topically relevant to the subject matter of the application, promote collaborations with other institutions of higher education and industry with strong participation by students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty from EPSCoR eligible institutions. These collaborations may include institutions from other EPSCoR jurisdictions. Collaborations involving more than one institution or more than one EPSCoR jurisdiction, while welcome, are not a requirement.
DOE EPSCoR also encourages but does not require implementation grants to work toward building beneficial relationships between institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions and the 10 worldclass Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) managed by the Office of Science. These institutions offer opportunities to leverage capabilities of DOE national user facilities and to develop intellectual collaborations that may not be available locally. Please refer to the section on funding limitations below for limitations on national laboratory participation.
To further the success of the federal-state partnership and of the Implementation Grants in general, applicants must be aware of the following expectations:
- Applications must present the opportunities for enhanced academic research and development competitiveness and, if appropriate, industrial or economic competitiveness, for the jurisdiction, including plans for the acquisition of sustained non-EPSCoR support.
- Applications must exhibit a coherent focus on one DOE-related research area bringing together multiple researchers.
- Applications must present a management plan for coordinating multiple investigators working on a common theme. This must include performance milestones and a timetable for achieving project goals and deliverables.

The NASA EPSCoR Program has announced the release of a new solicitation titled “Rapid Response Research (R3)” for FY2021. The goal of this effort is to foster close collaborations among NASA, industry and university faculty to solve specific current NASA research challenges.
There is no requirement that Science/Co PIs be U.S. citizens, however, foreign nationals (e.g., non-U.S. citizens who do not have a green card) will likely not be permitted access to NASA Centers. This may or may not be relevant to the research being proposed. The AU Science-I/Co-I's should propose for $80K (which will be a sub-award from UAH).

Please note that the Alabama EPSCoR Program Office will accept proposals for technical/scientific areas listed in the solicitation. Each EPSCoR Program is only allowed one submittal per NASA topic area. If more than one proposal is submitted per topic area, the Alabama EPSCoR Program Office will conduct a down-selection process.

- Proposal Summary/abstract (limited to 4,000 characters)
- Data Management Plan (limited to 4,000 characters)
- Table of Contents (as needed)
- Scientific/Technical proposal (limited to 2-3 pages only). Must identify the technical area you are addressing/which Office you are proposing.
- References/citations (as needed)
- Biographical Sketch for the Science Investigator (limited to 2 pages)
- Biographical Sketches for the Co-Investigators (limited to 1 page)
- Current and Pending Support (as needed)
- Statements of Commitment and Letters of Support (as needed)
- 1-year budget, $80,000 maximum (cost share is NOT required, but is allowed).
Note: Funding shall not be used to purchase "general purpose" equipment, support NASA civil service participation and funds shall be expended at NASA EPSCoR institutions/cannot be transferred to non-EPSCoR institutions. Also, researchers who submit NASA-funded articles in peer-reviewed journals or papers from conferences now shall make their work accessible to the public.
