Board of Supervisors Highlights - July 10

Participation in Certified Local Government Program Renewed
Supervisors voted to renew the township's participation in the Certified Local Government Program. This program is a  partnership between municipal governments, the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office, and the National Park Service that promotes and supports effective historic preservation programs and policies in Pennsylvania municipalities. Designation is a mark of distinction that provides participating communities with credibility, as well as access to technical assistance and grant programs; it means that the municipality follows best practices and views preservation as an integral part of its community and economic development. Learn more about the program.

Traffic Signal Improvements Coming Soon
The board awarded a bid to Traffic Systems and Services, LLC to complete improvements to the traffic signals at the following intersections:
  • University Boulevard and Tiger Trail
  • University Boulevard and Patton Drive
  • University Boulevard and Port Authority Drive
  • Brodhead Road and Shafer Road
  • Beaver Grade Road and Tiger Trail
The township had  received a grant from Pennsylvania's Green Light-Go Program which will cover most of the cost.  The upgrades will include new traffic controllers that are compatible with the controllers recently installed at the remaining intersections along University Boulevard, upgraded communications, upgraded vehicle detection, and installation of battery backup systems. These improvements will  enable better synchronization which will improve safety and traffic flow, especially during rush hour.
