This Week at the Levitt Pavilion
Sept. 19-22
Music and video combine for one-of-a-kind concert experience

Thursday: Concert week begins with a bonus concert at 8 p.m., when the pavilion is the site for Arlington Gives!, the annual North Texas Giving Day event hosted by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation. Genre-defying Indie singer/songwriter, Daphne Willisperforms a free concert for the event that includes food trucks and a nonprofit organization showcase that begins at 6:30 p.m. During the evening, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation will award bonus grants to Arlington charities and nonprofits, including a People's Choice bonus grant for the organization that gets the most votes that night. North Texas Giving Day is an annual day set aside for online charitable giving with donations partially matched through Communities Foundation of Texas.

Friday:  Cuban/Caribbean rhythms with a hip-hop beat take over the Levitt for an 8 p.m. performance by Flow Tribe, presented by the University of Texas at Arlington. The six-member band is comprised of NOLA natives who have dubbed their music "backbone-cracking music" that melds R&B, soul, rock and hip-hop beats with second-line brass and Cuban/Caribbean rhythms for a high-energy performance.

Saturday: One of Arlington's hometown record labels, Spyder Pop Records, showcases three of its artists at the Levitt at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. The evening includes The Pengwins (THE party band in the '70s), who have performed with The Drifters and The Guess Who. They stopped touring in 1992, but got the band together again a decade or so ago to record and play select venues. Lannie Flowers, a standard bearer for power pop music, also is featured in the showcase. In addition to touring as part of The Pengwins, Flowers won the 2013 LA Music Awards Record of the Year. Rounding out the performances is Danny Wilkerson, another original Pengwin, who went on to launch his own music company.

Sunday: If you've never been to Big Bend National Park, and even if you have, you can take a trip there in music, poetry, folklore and stunning video from the comfort of your lawn chair at 8 p.m. with Montopolis: The Legend of Big Bend.
Critically acclaimed Indie classical group, Montopolis, turns West Texas tales into song for a concert that weaves history, poetry and personal stories into music inspired by the land and the people who have walked upon it. Music and story are accompanied by breathtaking video on the Levitt video screen that captures the epic grandeur of the vast high desert wilderness. Led by composer Justin Sherburn, Montopolis combines country, folk and rock styles into modern classical arrangements that the Austin Chronicle has called "stunning" and "transcendent." The musicians include members of the Austin Symphony, Okkervil River, The Polyphonic Spree and the Tosca String Quartet. The dynamic seven-piece group accompanies a gorgeous video portrait of West Texas and legends of the Texas Rangers and Native Americans. This one-of-a-kind concert night is made possible by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
