A New School Year Begins
Superintendent's Conference Day marked the beginning of the new school year for teachers and staff in Hicksville. Marianne Litzman literally rang in the new year and welcomed everyone. Steve Chassman from Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence spoke about the issues surrounding mental health and substance abuse in young people. Stephanie Sullo introduced HCT leadership and urged members to get involved this year.

Union Reps Working for You
Building reps from each of the nine school buildings met Tuesday, August 27th, at the NYSUT office in Woodbury to discuss important issues facing our teachers this year. The Board of Directors discussed district-wide construction (and related challenges), new and reestablished HCT committees, and expectations for the year ahead. 
This year, HCT has many events planned and will work to engage all members to benefit our schools and community. Be sure to attend your building-level meeting to stay informed about these initiatives and how you can get involved in upcoming events.
HCT Welcomes New Teachers
HCT Executive Board welcomed 24 new teachers on Thursday, August 22nd at the Administration Building. President Stephanie Sullo detailed the benefits and responsibilities of being an active union member. Next Generation NYSUT Coordinator Michelle Iadevaia discussed the unique challenges facing new teachers today and discussed NYSUT's plan to support them.

Food vouchers are available for $8 Includes Hamburger, Hot Dog or Chicken Nuggets, French Fries and a Drink. Pizza is available as a vegetarian option upon prior request - please indicate if this is necessary on your order form. 
Snack vouchers are available for $3 Options include popcorn, churro or pretzel.
