A Message from Socrates Academy Administration

Dear Parents,

This letter is to inform you of the seriousness of a threat made at Socrates Academy. The safety and security of your children is of utmost importance, and we ask for your partnership in educating your children about its seriousness. A threat made on school grounds is not only going to result in disciplinary action taken by the school, but also potential legal action taken by local authorities.

Upon hearing about a threat at Socrates Academy, the alleged offender is removed immediately and accompanied by a staff member until parents and legal authorities are contacted. Click  HERE  to read the detailed process that follows.

We want to make parents aware of an incident that occurred last week in a middle school classroom. A student brought a small pocket knife to school. Thankfully, no one was physically harmed, and the incident was quickly reported to school administrators. That student faced disciplinary action by the school and CMPD will address the situation separately. We have been in close contact with the student’s family to address this issue. We also provided immediate support to those students and staff who witnessed the incident.

Safety is a top priority and we have a zero tolerance policy for any actions that endanger the safety of our students, teachers and other school officials. We will use this as an opportunity to discuss safety with our scholars and encourage you to do the same at home. It is important for all scholars to understand that even purported jokes and pranks that involve school safety will not be tolerated. We have seen a rise in scholars using harmful speech, such as using the word “kill” during playtime with their classmates. This word and others that could be perceived as a threat will not be tolerated on our campus. We have a counselor on staff who is available should your scholar need assistance. Please contact us with any questions.

We appreciate the partnership in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Socrates Academy Administration
