SPOTLIGHT ON HOME VISITATION

Evidence-based home visitation programs have been shown to prevent child abuse
and neglect, promote school readiness, and improve maternal/child health.  In  2018-2019,  First 5 San Joaquin  provided home visitation services to  974 families.  First 5 San Joaquin began funding home visitation programs in 2001 and has continued to invest in quality, evidence-based home visitation programs over the years.

Funded partners currently offer two different programs:  Home Visitation Initiative and FamilyWORKs.  The Home Visitation Initiative utilizes the Parents as Teachers curriculum, which helps parents be their child's first teacher, and the University of California Cooperative Extension Health Education program, which provides strategies to support families in leading healthier lives. FamilyWORKs, funded by the California Department of Social Servicesis a free  in-home program offered to CalWORKs participants with children under the age of three.

DIAPER DERMATITIS TIP SHEET

Hundreds of babies in San Joaquin County end up in the Emergency Room every year due to issues that may have been caused by lack of diaper changes.  Diapers help to prevent leaks. However, locked in moisture from just a little pee can cause a diaper rash. Download the Diaper Dermatitis Tip Sheet  for helpful tips on how keep baby clean and dry.
