Love Will Guide Us

This is IT!!  The big day is upon us: Stewardship Sunday!  It's a time to celebrate our shared commitment to our beloved community.

52 members and friends have already made that commitment in the form of a pledge for 2013-14.  If you are one of them, thank you!!  If not, NOW is the time!

• Bring your pledge card with you to church and turn it in before or during the service.
•         If you don't have a pledge card, or can't locate it, extra pledge cards will be available at church
•         If you can't make it on Sunday,  mail your pledge to church before Sunday or e-mail your intended pledge to our collector,  Bill Jones at [email protected]

Increased funds are needed next year for our ministerial search, our staff, and religious education, as well as other ongoing programs. Don't be left out! You'll feel great as you enjoy a celebratory service and cake, knowing that YOU helped make a difference.

Sunday, May 5, immediately following the service. The purpose of this meeting is to elect members to the Ministerial Search Committee. Nominees for this committee have been recommended by the members of the congregation via phone calls or other personal contact. From the ballot provided, the congregation will select four members, and the Board will select the remaining three from the rest of the pool. Obviously, the support and input of the entire congregation is critical to this process, so please come and vote!

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR APRIL 21, 2013:

NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, April 28: Why Do They Call it "Gaming"?A service about gambling, the poor, libertarianism, and the state. Rev. Martha L. Munson.

NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, April 28: War Zone Faith. The Rev. George Tyger, former minister of First Universalist Church, has written a book about his experiences and reflections as an Army chaplain in Afghanistan.  Phil Ebersole will review the book and lead a discussion.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages.  Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor.  We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.

THE SOCIAL JUSTICE PLATE OFFERING  today will benefit the children of School 7. We will buy back packs, school supplies, and keep supplies on hand of underwear, socks, jeans and sweats. We will also provide funds for field trips for children who cannot attend due to lack of money provided from home. Some teachers pay out of their own pockets, but there is still a need. Next fall we will be collecting food for Thanksgiving packages for families in need that the social worker has identified, and will also provide Christmas presents. Thank you!

SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE (former Outreach Committee) will meet on Monday, April 22nd at 5:45PM in the volunteer room. We will discuss ways to gain greater community visibility for the social justice efforts we are currently involved in and others we can could join or initiative. INTERFAITH IMPACT OF NEW YORK STATE Advocacy Day: Monday, April 29, in Albany.  The Women's Equality Act, Gender Expression and Fair Elections are our three issues.  Contact Dick Gilbert for more information or go to www.interfaithimpactnys.org.

EASTMAN AT WASHINGTON SQUARE LUNCHTIME CONCERT SERIES Thursdays at 12:15 in the Clara Barton Lounge. The concerts are free and open to the public.

THE BOOKSTORE AND LIBRARY in the Clara Barton Lounge will be open during coffee hour for borrowing, browsing, and buying.

ROCHESTER AREA INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (RAIHN) is a non-profit organization of faith communities assisting homeless families in achieving sustainable independence. Every fifteen weeks, a faith community hosts RAIHN guests in their place of worship for one week. 

Our next RAIHN week starts on Mother's Day, and we can make a few mothers' lives better by providing a safe place for their families to stay. For volunteer opportunities during the week of May 12-19, 2013, please contact Chris DeGolyer at [email protected].
