Keeping King's Chapel's members and friends connected each week while we are "Physically Closed but Spiritually Open."
Spotlight On:
ACCLAIM THE DAY!

On July 15, 2000, Heinrich Christensen officially became the Music Director at King's Chapel. Let us virtually celebrate and be grateful for twenty years of receiving the gifts of this extraordinary, generous, and delightful guy. He is a world-class musician and a Jolly Good Fellow.

We will gather to fete him at our Block Party this Friday at 5 PM!  Contact laura@kings-chapel.org for login information.

While we await and prepare for this festive celebration, you can access music through our website , or through our   YouTube channel,  and on YouTube, you can hear his recent   recital on the great organ in Methuen.   You also might find it interesting (and impressive) to Google him!

Huzzah and thanks, Heinrich!

Be Not Afraid: Our Big Transitions

When Fr. Bob Dufford wrote the hymn "Be Not Afraid," it was on the eve of his own ordination as a Jesuit priest, and he was wondering whether he was really cut out for that new life. Years later, he learned that Bill Clinton would have the hymn sung at his presidential inauguration. Then Fr. Dufford sat with his own father as he died, and wrote the hymn's newest, fourth verse. "Be Not Afraid" has become a hymn about all the big transitions in life, Dufford realized.

No wonder I keep singing the hymn now. This Sunday will be the third and final sermon in my series.

With many blessings to each of you, in this big, unplanned time of transition,
Joy

King's Chapel: A Praying Church

King's Chapel is a praying church! This week we've added a new link to our website page to make easy any request you may have:   prayerrequest@kings-chapel.org.   Requests sent here will be received by Joy Fallon, David Waters, and Cynthia Perkins, Prayer Circle Chair. If you prefer, know that you can always reach out to any of us individually also. To learn more about King's Chapel as a "praying church," click here.

We are happy to announce new updates on our website! As we continue to remain physically closed but spiritually open, you can stay connected with King's Chapel from the comfort of your own home- hence the new King's Chapel from Home homepage on our website. Our hope is that these new pages will better render what we have to offer - from the beautifully pieced together virtual Morning Prayer Services to weekly Coffee with Clergy to Conversations with the History Program Educators. There's also a section with tips about using Zoom to join us in our virtual gatherings. Throughout the summer we will also continue to update and improve our website. Stay tuned!

While this is being done, fabrication of the column bases has begun offsite.

We anticipate that this will be a 3-4 month project. We look forward to this all coming together, and will continue to keep you updated!

Looking Back

This past weekend, King's Chapel made bagged lunches for our friends at  common cathedral, the church for the unhoused on the Boston Common. Carol Genovese purchased and delivered lunch materials to King's Chapel volunteers Rita Horgan, Stephen Courtney, and Gary Riccio who made 150 sandwiches and bagged them into brown bags with drink boxes and snacks. Then on Sunday morning Carol and Emanuel Genovese retrieved and delivered the lunches to the staff of common cathedral who served them to the unhoused community outside by Brew Fountain on the Common.

AUGUST 2: King's Chapel will make 150 lunches again on Sunday, August 2 and deliver them to our Community Action Partner, common cathedral. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Carol Genovese or Amanda Pickett.  This is a great opportunity to both feel and be useful by serving an especially vulnerable population during this time of pandemic and political unrest.

In addition, Tom Gregg has composed a new setting of Psalm 139 especially for this Sunday's service.

As Joy concludes her sermon series on Be Not Afraid, everybody gets to sing along with Alison LaRosa, Heather Holland, Sudeep Agarwala, and Albert Craig one more time.

Giving to King's Chapel
Our stewardship giving to King's Chapel continues even as we are not physically together each week. This includes our annual pledges and gifts as well as our ongoing contributions to the Sunday plate. If you have not yet sent in your pledge or gift please  do so now and help us in this moment when we truly need it. If you are used to putting money in the Sunday Plate each week to support our community partners and our operating budget, you still can. The loss of this income, about $30,000, has an immediate impact on our community partners and our bottom line. Consider a monthly donation to the Sunday offering--maybe $50,$60,$75, $100 to make up for the lost weeks of attendance. Embracing our stewardship role is a way to joyfully and thankfully support the daily ongoing work that keeps King's Chapel thriving. Thank you.

Internet Fraud - Protect Yourself

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, churches across the nation have seen a steep rise in incidents of internet fraud and scams, especially using ministers' names and targeting church members. So far in the last two months, we've had twenty or more. Please watch out for these. I promise, we will never ask you to send us gift cards.  We will never ask for your personal identifying information or bank account info.  If we ever purport to say that we can't be reached by phone, be suspicious.

Some other hints to protect yourselves: Double check the "from" address to see who really has sent it, and double check the email of the person to whom you're supposedly replying. Verify suspicious emails by phone, especially if the email says not to call. Click the link below for more information on how to protect yourself and your family from internet crime.
