COME SING WITH US!

Are You
A
Choral S inger?

Why Join the Choir?
It's good for your health
Studies have shown how choir can improve your health - it's fantastic brain food. Brain game exercises are all over the place with the Nintedo 3DS or sudoku. Well why not start keeping your mind healthy by making music?
Here are a few things you'll see improve with choir
  • Multi-tasking  - you've got to watch the conductor, keep an eye on the music and know when to come in
  • Memory - you've got to sing by heart sometimes
  • Focus - concentrating for an hour on a performance
  • Math - Yes, you've got to count!

The First Sunday in Lent

Romans 5:12-19

As sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned-- sin was indeed in the world before the law, but sin is not reckoned when there is no law. Yet death exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one who was to come.

But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many. And the free gift is not like the effect of the one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. If, because of the one man's trespass, death exercised dominion through that one, much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness exercise dominion in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Therefore just as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all, so one man's act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all. For just as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.

Lead Us Heavenly Father Lead Us - Queen's 90th Birthday Service of Thanksgiving.
Lead Us Heavenly Father Lead Us -

Lead us, Heavenly Father lead us
O'er the world's tempestuous sea;
Guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
For we have no help but thee;
Yet possessing every blessing
If our God our Father be.

Saviour breathe forgiveness o'er us
All our weakness thou dost know.
Thou didst tread this earth before us.
Thou didst feel its keenest woe:
Lone and dreary, faint and weary.
Through the desert thou didst go.

Spirit of our God, descending,
Fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
Love with every passion blending,
Pleasure that can never cloy:
Thus provided, pardoned, guided,
Nothing can our peace destroy.

Clergy colleagues and wardens,
We ask that you share the following statement with your congregations in the way that feels most appropriate for your context, and as soon as possible.

February 21, 2020

Dear People of God:

Last September, I wrote with the news that Gregory Lisby, formerly a priest of our diocese, had been arrested after an FBI investigation determined that there was probable cause to believe he possessed child pornography. Today I want to update you on this situation and share some additional painful news.

We expect that later today, Lisby will plead guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in federal court in Worcester and will remain in prison awaiting sentencing. In light of this fact, we are conducting a disciplinary process under the canons of our church and taking all required steps to remove him from the Episcopal priesthood. In addition, even after he is released from prison, Lisby will not be permitted any contact with congregations in this diocese without my express permission.

As this situation has unfolded, we have also received devastating credible evidence that after he was ordained as a priest in 2007, Lisby sexually abused a teenager. I am deeply saddened to know that a priest is alleged to have committed such a grievous sin, and on behalf of the entire church, I offer my most heartfelt apology to the victim, the victim's family and to everyone whose trust in the church has been violated.

I cannot undo this terrible situation, but I can commit our diocese to telling the truth and seeking healing and reconciliation for anyone who has been harmed by Lisby. That is why I am making this public and asking anyone in our congregations who may wish to speak to me or to share relevant information to call me confidentially at (413) 417-2401.

Lisby's husband, the Rev. Timothy Burger, is in no way implicated in any of these charges. Tim, who has filed for divorce, remains a priest in good standing and a valuable leader of the Diocese of Western Massachusetts. I am grateful for his faithful perseverance during this time.

Please know that we take the safety of children very seriously in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts, and our clergy and lay leaders participate in the safe church training programs mandated by the Episcopal Church. As we redouble our efforts to ensure that our churches are safe places for all people, I ask you to pray for children and youth who have been abused, for the children who are trafficked by child pornographers, and for an end to the unspeakable evil that causes their suffering.

I ask you to pray for Tim and his daughters, for the people of the congregations who are especially wounded by this news, for Greg himself, and for all who are grieving this situation. May God's grace sustain us all during this difficult time.

Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. Douglas J. Fisher
Bishop

Letter to Grace Church:

All of us at the Berkshire Immigrant Center wish to extend a hearty thank you to everyone at Church Church for your support, on behalf of the hundreds of clients we serve annually.

Your generous donations in 2019 helped the Center serve more than 700 clients in our offices. More than 40 students participated in our free citizenship preparation classes. We presented or tabled at more than 20 workshops and events, spreading the word about the importance of supporting our immigrant neighbors, colleagues, and friends. In our last fiscal year, 27 of our clients attained US citizenship with our help.

The Berkshire Immigrant Center remains the only organization in Berkshire County dedicated solely to serving the unique needs of local immigrants. Thank you, Grace Church, for helping to build the Center up and keep us strong, so that we can better fulfill our mission.

Please take a look at the attached fact sheet highlighting the Center's recent efforts.

"CHANGE THE BABIES"
Please put your loose change in the jar that will be at the Welcome Table.
This money that is insignificant in our day-to- day life is life-giving for these babies and those who care for them.
It costs about $1500 a year to support a baby and the Diocese's goal is for one congregation to support one child for those years.
Everything you give will go to support babies at the Mampong Babies Home in Ghana.
