FALL FESTIVAL & TRUNK OR TREAT
THIS SUNDAY after the 10:30 Service

Make plans to attend this amazing, even-bigger event this year! We will have games, the ever-popular cake walk, along with grilled hot dogs. Plus, it's time to decorate those trunks for some Halloween fun and goodies. Costumes optional. For the adults, pitch in to volunteer at booths and don't forget those goodies and decorated trunks. Contact Sarah Sailor if you can help.

EVERGREEN CHILDREN'S CHORALE
THIS SUNDAY at the 10:30 Service
Join us as the very special Evergreen Children's Chorale is with us to perform several musical pieces as part of our worship.

BAKERS NEEDED

At our Fall Festival we plan to have a Cake Walk. We are requesting small cakes or cupcakes for this activity. Messy frosting are not a good choice because they might sit in the sun.  If you are able to contribute to this, please bring them with you on Sunday.

STEWARDSHIP MOMENTS

"Enriched in Every Way, Generous on Every Occasion" Stewardship Drive Underway

Join us in discovering how our generosity gives thanksgiving to God, and enables all of our ministry. We encourage you to discern your giving level for 2020, drawing from how we are called by our Lord to be abundantly generous, which in turn blesses us abundantly.

We are receiving completed pledge cards now. This is a change from the past where we waited until a consecration Sunday. Pledge cards were mailed and emailed the beginning of the month. They are also available during worship. Please email or bring your completed cards to the church.

We have a pledge goal for 2020 of $250,000. To help us celebrate moving toward this goal, every week new blocks will be added to our beautiful cross in the narthex. Each block represents another $10,000 pledged towards our goal. These represent all the life changing ministries we together, by God's guidance and grace, will make possible in 2020.

We are the Bates family, Robert, Linda, Hunter and Violet! We have loved being new members of Evergreen United Methodist Church. Linda was raised Methodist, so when we were searching for a new church, we were just drawn to the Evergreen Methodist church as something familiar. The first thing we noticed was how welcoming and warm everyone was, the smiling faces and handshakes were amazing. We also really loved the kids programs that are in place. Our kids have loved meeting new friends and learning about Jesus. We feel blessed to have found our church family and look forward to many more good memories.

Join Us for Our Celebration Meal on
Sunday, November 10 @ 11:30

Our dinner will feature delectable salmon, roast beef, crab cakes & white fish prepared by our own Chef Clyde, with delicious side dishes provided by you! Hosts Fred & Linda Bloemendaal & crew will arrange to have everything set up for this special meal. We will celebrate the culmination of the pledges making our ministry in 2020 possible.

VOLUNTEER SIGN UP

Thank you VERY much for those of you who have worked at the AGF in the past! We are again recruiting and coordinating volunteers from UMCE. Once again this year, we are providing a central sign up website using SignUpGenius.  This way, at one time, you can see all the open volunteer opportunities and time slots.  As in the past, you may volunteer for Set-Up, Clean-Up, Cashier, Cashier Support, Volunteer Check-In, Van Driver, Parking Lot Attendant, Safety Assistant (medical person) and more! We need your help to make the Fair a success again this year!!
THE SOONER YOU SIGN UP, THE MORE CHOICE IN JOBS YOU WILL HAVE!

The AGF SignUpGenius link is live and available for volunteer signup. It's easy to sign up online yourself at  www.gifttwice.org.

BABY JESUS NEEDED FOR CHILDREN'S
CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
For at least 25 years we have had a Spontaneous (unrehearsed) Children's Christmas Pageant on Christmas Eve. All children are invited to participate and no rehearsal is done.  We provide costumes for angels, shepherds, kings and animals(friendly beasts).

We do need a live Baby Jesus. If you have a grandchild who will be visiting over Christmas, we would love it if he or she could do this. Their parents would play the parts of Mary and Joseph. As long as the baby would not try to crawl out of the manger, the age is not critical. (Wesley Sailor was Baby Jesus when he was 10 months old!)

MOUNTAIN RESOURCE CENTER REQUEST
The Mountain Resource Center is requesting sleeping bags this winter for those in need in our community.

This is what they are looking for in the way of sleeping bags:
  • New or lightly used and washed
  • Rated for 20 degrees or below preferred
  • Weather resistant
Thank you so much - it's getting COLD out there!

Please contact office@evergreenumc.org with any questions.

2019 PURA VIDA MINISTRIES ANNUAL GALA
Friday, November 1st at 6:00 pm

Pura Vida Ministries will hold a Benefit Dinner and Celebration on Friday, November 1st at the Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood, Colorado. The gathering will provide an opportunity to join in the celebration of the continued success of Pura Vida's Guatemala ministries.

The evening includes a reception at 6:00pm, dinner at 7:30pm, and a program presentation on Pura Vida's mission. There will also be a silent auction and time to mingle with others who've participated in Pura Vida's success.

Pura Vida Ministries is currently providing scholarships for over 350 children in several rural Guatemalan villages. Many of these students wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to attend school. A significant number of these scholarship students are sponsored by families from this church.  Many of these students, who began sponsorship in primary school, are now enrolled at university. Pura Vida is extremely grateful for your support.

Work teams have provided many news homes and school classrooms for needy communities in Guatemala.  Our English Camp has just completed it's 6th year teaching English skills to students in communities near Chichicastenango.  Your church has been instrumental in the success via sponsorships, mission trips and financial & prayer support throughout Pura Vida's history.

Please join us November 1st to celebrate our shared accomplishments and hear more about plans for the future of Pura Vida ministries.

For more details about the event and to order tickets, go to  http://www.puravida.org/dinner , or Nickie Rounds at  rounds@roundscpa.com  or  (303)-632-8191.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

Will Our Children Be Generous?

Today, tomorrow and every day, children will be exposed to over five thousand messages geared to get them to spend their money on themselves. These messages try to convince children they are worth what they possess. Who will send them the messages about the benefits of being generous people who share and save their money as well as spend it? Who will teach them that they are valued by God just the way they are regardless of what they own or what they wear?

There are no guarantees that generous parents or grandparents will raise generous children. Even those who intentionally practice and teach faithful stewardship habits cannot be assured that their children or grandchildren will be equally motivated to be good stewards in their adult years. However, there are things parents and grandparents can do to influence kids' and youth's attitudes and actions as co-stewards of their everyday world and beyond.

  1. Model the behavior you want. Let them see you giving donations to charitable causes and doing random acts of kindness for others. Talk about why you support the organizations you do. Talk about why you try to conserve natural resources and why you care about how the food and products you purchase were made.
  2. Teach and model the 10-10-80 concepts: Share a tenth, save a tenth, spend the rest wisely. Provide kids a method to set aside a tenth for charity; a tenth for savings; and a way to track how they spend the rest.
  3. Take your children shopping for people they will never meet-other children, new mothers, elderly people, people who have special needs. Donate the items they select to church projects or other local organizations.
  4. Give your children a chance to read about nonprofit organizations on the internet. Then let them pick out a project they'd like to know more about and support.
  5. Teach children how to write or email thank you notes.
  6. Help kids learn the difference between a need and a want
  7. Encourage kids to be involved in the life of our congregation in whatever ways are available.
  8. Connect Bible stories you have conversations about to teachings about stewardship and generosity.

Blessings,
Pastor Deb
