TOWNSHIP NEWS   

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP FALL FESTIVAL    
Brighton Township's Annual Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, September 28 at Hardy Field between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. and will include fun and entertainment for the whole family!  Admission is FREE! 
 
Arts and craft vendors, food vendors, bounce houses, kids games and crafts, pumpkin patch and hayrides, face painting and other special activities and surprises!
TWO MILE RUN PARK RESERVATIONS    
Brighton Township residents may begin reserving the Two Mile Run Park facilities for 2020 dates on Saturday, October 12th, 2019.  Reservations will be taken in person only at the Municipal Building on Saturday, October 12th from 8:00 a.m. until noon for Brighton Township residents only.  Proof of residency/photo ID will be required when making your reservation.  Payment is due at the time of reservation.  Reserve by phone beginning Monday, October 14th starting at 8:00 a.m.  Payment for telephone reservations will be due within one week.  Call 724-774-4800 to make reservations.
 
If you are reserving Shultz Lodge for June, July or August, only one reservation per person will be taken for those summer months on Saturday, October 12th.
 
Brighton Township resident rental rates for 2020 for Shultz Lodge will be $140 and $40 for Shelters.
GLASS COLLECTION FOR BEAVER COUNTY RESIDENTS   
Brighton Township residents may now recycle eyeglasses and glass bottles and jars every Wednesday 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Brady's Run Recycling Center.  Call 724-770-2068 for more information.
LOCAL EVENTS  
SEPTEMBER 6 - 7  The 10th Annual Beaver County Bookfest will be held at Irvine Square in Beaver on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The event kicks off Friday during a ticketed fundraiser event inside the Author Tent.  Saturday, meet over 70 local and regional authors signing and selling their books.  Also featuring a children's activity tent, food vendors and literary-themed retail vendors.
SEPTEMBER 14  The 4th Annual Beaver Wine Festival will be held in the Business District in Beaver.  This event features 10 of Pennsylvania's best wineries, food trucks and talented musicians.  This is a rain or shine event and participants must be at least 21 years old.  $25, 2-7 p.m.  Call 724-888-3820 for more info. 
SEPTEMBER 21  The Beaver County Amateur Astronomers will hold a Star Party at the Bradys Run Park baseball fields on Achortown Road.  Observe moons, constellations, galaxies and double stars between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.  This event is free.
SEPTEMBER 28  Brighton Township's Annual Tire Disposal Program, conducted in cooperation with the Independence Conservancy, has been scheduled.  Tires are excluded from curbside collection.  Over the past two years nearly 1,000 tires have been collected at the Brighton Township site.  The collection will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works site, 1250 Brighton Road.  There is a small fee, depending on the size of the tire.  Cash or check (with proper ID). 
SEPTEMBER 28  Touring & Tasting Delights Kitchen Tour begins at the Beaver Area High School at 9:30 a.m. for the Marketplace and pick-up of tour map and tickets.  Home tours in Beaver begin at 11:00 a.m. with delicious samples prepared by chefs as well as take home recipes while touring beautiful and interesting kitchens.  Tours end at 3:00 p.m.  $15 advance purchase at the Hostess Gift Shoppe in Beaver.  Call 724-770-2093 for more info.
SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER  The Beaver County Genealogy & History Center is having beginning genealogy and family history classes at their facility at 250 East End Avenue, Beaver.  The cost is $35 for 3 classes, 3 consecutive weeks from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Learn how to research your family history, complete genealogical charts and forms and how to protect your valuable research.  Classes are September 30, October 7 and 14 or October 1, 2 and 15.  Call 724-775-1775 to register for classes.
OCTOBER 2  The Veteran's Breakfast Club will meet at Seven Oaks County Club (132 Lisbon Road) between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  Breakfast is $12. RSVP at least two days in advance by calling 412-623-9029.
OCTOBER 3  There will be a one day trip to visit the Washington D.C. national memorials such as the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.  The trip is for WWII and Korean War Era Veterans and all who served prior to May 15, 1975.  The trip is free.  The bus departs at 5:30 a.m. from the Beaver County Parking Garage (next to the Court House) and returns between 10 - 11 p.m.  There is a nurse on each bus as well as several assistants.  Meals and drinks are provided and wheelchairs are available for those that need them.  The goal is to fill every seat with a veteran!  For more information and reservations, please call Lydian Fisher at 724-728-9370.
OCTOBER 12  Safely dispose of common household chemicals at the Bradys Run Park Recycling Center on Saturday, October 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The fee is $3/gallon (a few exceptions apply).  Cash only.  Call 412-488-7452 or 724-770-2064 for more information.
OCTOBER 31  Trick or Treat will be observed in Brighton Township on Thursday, October 31 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

QUILTER'S GROUP  meets the fourth Wednesday of the month from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Open to Everyone.
KNIT & CROCHET CLUB  meets every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. making items to sell to support library programs.

SHOW & CONCERT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

SEPTEMBER 1  The Beaver Area Heritage Foundation presents the Allegheny Brass Band Summer Brass at the Movies -- Movie theme favorites and more!  Enjoy this free concert at the Gazebo in Irvine Square in Beaver at 7 p.m.  Bring your own lawn chair!
SEPTEMBER 26 - 29  The Bobcat Players present Red Herring.  A noir comedy that begins with a murder in Boston Harbor and ventures to Joe McCarthy's home in middle America and to the Southwest deserts where the nuclear bomb is being tested, this show has it all.  It's a love story, a nostalgic look at American in the early 1950s, a murder mystery and most of all a comedy of epic proportions.  Meet hard-nosed New England detectives, disgruntled FBI agents, naive Midwestern maidens and Soviet spies who all have one thing in common:  a desperate need for love and commitment in a crazy, Communist ridden world.  Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Ed Schaughency Theater in the Beaver Area Middle-High School.
OCTOBER 4 - 20  Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center presents Matilda The Musical.  Be inspired by the story of an extraordinary little girl who proves that with courage and cleverness you can do anything you put your mind to.  Based on the beloved Roald Dahl novel, Matilda will thrill audiences of all ages with high-energy singing and dancing and inspire you to take your destiny into your own hands.  Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
