seasonal outings in the local area and trips to sights of interest.

A message from Marcela Meeks-This fall, I will be joining the St. James staff as your new Children's Music Director.  After meeting some of the parents and children during the interview process, I became convinced that children's music is something held up and valued by this congregation.  I am eager to join this team of young families and volunteers on this journey to build a curriculum that will make our children grow and develop as worship leaders.  St. James is blessed to have a committed team of volunteer music leaders that are willing to give their time and talents to our Children's Music program. I am looking forward to walking beside them and growing with them as we start a new year together.  This year, we are structuring our program to offer new age groups that will help our children have a better learning experience.  Another important element that will be added this year will be the use of instruments.  We will use instruments to more effectively teach the elements of rhythm, ear training, and eventually our children will read music. I cannot wait to hear our children's voices and sounds traveling through the hallways and sanctuary
of St. James.

Praying Moms Book Club-The Praying Moms Book Club that meets in the Parlor on Friday's from 9:15-10:30AM will begin the 2019-2020 year on Friday, September 13. Childcare is provided with advance notice. We will be reading Called: Hearing and
Responding to God's Voice.  Email Meredith Howell at: [email protected] for more information.

Men's Steak Dinner-Save the date, Thursday, October 10th for the annual men's steak dinner.  This year's guest speaker will be Rev. David Wofford.  More information to come.

Welcome Sunday is coming soon!-Be on the lookout for more information about a special Sunday to welcome visitors and new members with a brunch on Oct 6.

Prayer and Visitation Team-Acts 2:42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  Do you like to pray with and for others? Do you like to write cards and/or visit with people?  Each Monday a rotation of people visit those who are ill, home-bound, or who need some cheering up, and we are looking for more volunteers to be part of the Visitation Team. Email Rev AnnaKate at: [email protected] for call the church office or more information or to sign up!

Belief in Action
Mission Trip to Costa Rica Methodist Childrens Home

A group will be returning to the Methodist Children's Home of Costa Rica Saturday, May 30, through Sunday, June 7, 2020.  This will be the 7th year that St. James has sent a team to work on this amazing project. The dates have been purposefully chosen to fit between that time when school has just let out for the summer and many summer activities have yet to begin. The work is a great opportunity for individuals and friends to join together in "Translating their Belief into Action" for an orphanage in Costa Rica and then to spend a little time visiting in a beautiful country. If you have any interest, please contact either Ted Green at [email protected] or Cynthia Lyon at
[email protected]  Don't wait as there is a maximum team size.

Music Ministry
Men's Ensemble-Our Men's Ensemble will begin rehersals on Thursday, Sept 5, at 6pm in the Parlor. We will rehearse once per month, and will find opportunities to sing together in worship and other venues. This group will be about music and fellowship, so we will have an opportunity to spend some time together after each meeting. Want to know more? Contact Michael at: [email protected]
or show up on Sept 5.

Childrens' Choir-We are excited to begin a new music class for our middle school, 6th through 8th grades.  Marcela Meeks, our new Director of Children's Music will be teaching this class.  She has created a middle school curriculum that will teach our kids to play not only percussion instruments but handbell ringing as well. This is a great opportunity for our youth to explore playing music as a team and to be able to achieve reading music by the end of this year. They do not need to have any experience playing music to be in this group. All of our groups will be participating in worship this year, including the Christmas Eve Service.  Regis-tration is now open through our website for all groups, 4-K, 1st- 2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th -8th.  For questions or if you want to know more about our new class this Fall, please email Marcela Meeks at:  [email protected]
