Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Arts Collective Concert

Nove. 8, 7:30 p.m.
Concert Hall, Jack H. Miller Center

The Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Arts Collective will do a side-by-side of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Duke Ellington Nutcracker Suites. Both historic on their own merit, the two pieces are seldom performed together.  The shared program will allow the audience to hear Ellington's transformation of some of the favorite Tchaikovsky dances from the Nutcracker ballet in the context of the original.

42 flutes, including the smaller ensemble, Great Lakes Flutes,  will present "Seascapes." All the selections will follow this theme, such as "Water Music" by G. F. Handel, and an arrangement of "The Water is Wide" by Sondra Tucker. Under the direction of flutist Julie Sooy, the groups maintain a busy performance schedule
throughout the region.
