This Week's Service:
A Sacred-Space Odyssey

As we enter the final weeks of our PACT campaign, we'll consider a few stories from our history in this space, and listen for what guidance they might give us going forward. Rev. Celie Katovitch.

This Week's Drop-In Discussion: Don't Believe Everything You Think!  You may have noticed troubles in the world.  Many stem from disagreement between people who "know" they are right, but who believe opposite "facts."   Why should that be?  Hank Stone will lead a discussion.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR OCTOBER 5, 2014:

NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, October 12: It's All In Your Imagination. October, with its culmination in Halloween, gives our kids freedom to imagine a world pervaded by enchantment. Today we will follow their lead, and consider the role of the religious imagination. Rev. Celie Katovitch.

NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, October 12: The Divide.  Phil Ebersole will review and lead a discussion of Matt Taibbi's new book, about a powerful financial elite escape prosecution, while members of a lower class are denied protection of the law.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages. Nursery care for babies and younger children is on the second floor provided throughout the service. We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.

ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST?  Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation?  Then stop by the Welcome Table  in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour.  You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!

FIRE DRILL TODAY: Sunday, October 5th, our RE students will be doing a practice fire drill. The drill will happen at 11:30, immediately following worship and before coffee hour. All RE volunteers are asked to report to the children's worship space at that time to take part in the drill; all others are asked to remain in the sanctuary for a few minutes after the service, to review procedures for exiting that part of the church. We expect this to take only a few minutes. Thank you for your cooperation in this short, but important, exercise.

FOOD INGATHERING is next Sunday, October 12. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit The Community Food Cupboard on Nester Street.

COZY FRIDAY NIGHT SUPPER: Join us for our next Cozy Friday Night Supper with Faith Development 5:30 to 7:30 PM on October 17th.  Supper, with a vegan option, is provided.  This session will focus on the fifth principle of the UUA - The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.  Sign up on the bulletin board in the Clara Barton Lounge, or contact Kathy Russell 585-544-2643 or [email protected].   Your RSVP/Sign Up will allow us to prepare appropriately.  Child-friendly activities exploring this principle will be arranged if you make a request one week in advance.

LEADERSHIP ASSEMBLY: Saturday Oct 18, 9am.  All Board members, Committee on Ministry members and committee chairs are asked to attend. All committees should be represented. All other church leaders are welcome. Key topics will include church communications and the coordination of the church calendar.

BOOK CLUB: The selection for October is The First Muslim: The Story of Mohammad, by Leslie Hazelton. The Book club will meet at 12:15 on Sunday, October  26th in the second floor adult lounge room. This is a very casual stress free group. Come and enjoy. Sarah Singal or Shirley Bond can give you further information.
