UCIE Staff Spotlight: Teresa Roth
Hi. I’m Teresa Roth, International Student Coordinator with the UCIE Admissions Team.
Like you, I am super-proud of my heritage. My parents immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands in the 1950s, with three children under the age of five. It wasn’t long after World War II. Europe was still rebuilding, and my parents and older siblings were part of a wave of post-war immigration. How very brave to move to a new country, learn a new language as well as a new culture. Especially with three young children. I can only imagine.
I was born in the U.S., and grew up in Dayton. My father was a florist and later, a landscape architect. He taught me to love nature, and understand the natural world. One of the greatest things about Ohio is how rich the soil is, and how well everything grows. After moving away and living in Florida for 20 years, I was thankful to move back to this green patch of earth. Digging in the dirt is one of my favorite things. With all the rivers and awesome bike paths in the area, my husband and I try to get out and kayak and bike ride as often as we can.
I hope you have a chance to explore Ohio’s many wonderful parks and waterways. You never know what treasures you’ll find.
