Resources, funding, and events to advance inclusive and equitable school communities
SEPTEMBER 2019
Greetings!
“I want to make it my mission that other people understand how much this program transformed me. These issues are important, and we need to continue the conversations the minute we leave this program — without fear or hesitation.”
In the summer of 2019, VCIC facilitated three retreat programs, along with nearly 100 other workshops for students, educators, business employees, and community leaders across Virginia. As you embark upon the 2019-2020 school year, please let us know how we can partner with you. Contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing VCIC.
VCIC's Calendar of Holidays and Festivals is a resource designed to encourage public awareness of the great diversity of religious and ethnic groups that live in the United States. Holidays and festivals are included for many religious, ethnic, and public occasions. Click here for the 2019-2020 calendar.
Commission on African American History Education
Governor Northam recently signed an Executive Order creating a Commission on African American History Education. VCIC is proud to be represented on this body by President & CEO Jonathan Zur, Lynchburg Chapter member Dr. Crystal Edwards, along with 3 past Humanitarian Award recipients and several partners. Assessing the State of Inclusion in Virginia
VCIC invites proposals for a research project to assess the “State of Inclusion” in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Through this project, we seek to understand: (1) The extent to which Virginia residents feel included in schools, workplaces, and communities; (2) The extent to which Virginia residents support inclusive policies and practices in schools, workplaces, and communities; and (3) If and how Virginia residents take action when they encounter exclusion.
