9:15 a.m. Drop-in Discussion - Presidential Primary.  Who should win the New York presidential primaries? Who will win?  Phil Ebersole will lead a discussion.

Friday, April 15 at 7 pm in the Clara Barton Lounge.  You are invited to a screening of this documentary film about urban farming and revitalizing our cities. (97 min.) Stewardship Sunday

Stewardship Sunday is this Sunday, April 17!   If you have already returned your pledge card, thank you!  If not, please be kind to our finance volunteers and be sure to return your pledge card by Sunday.  This year, you can make you pledge online.  And join us next week to celebrate your “piece of the pie!"

 RAIHN Car City 2016

Help Put the Brakes on Family Homelessness on April 30th 
A car is no substitute for a home. Car City is a fundraiser as well as a way to shed light on homelessness in Rochester. Families, youth groups and other teams are invited sleep in their cars at Asbury Methodist Church on Saturday night, April 30th. There will be food and evening activities, including Car-aoke, a sundae bar and Bedtime Yoga. In addition, local photojournalist Arleen Thaler will speak about her recent article about hunger and poverty in Rochester.

RAIHN TRAINING: Our RAIHN Week is over, but if you missed out, you can join us for our next RAIHN Week on July 10-17. First, attend RAIHN's new volunteer orientation on Tuesday, April 12th, 6:30-8:30 PM at United Church of Pittsford, 123 S. Main St, Pittsford  Then you will be ready to join our cracker-jack volunteer team! (RSVP to Jen Canning, [email protected], 506-9050. 

A BOUQUET OF SONG:  April 21st at 12:15 PM.  Enjoy a free concert featuring Cecile Saine, soprano, with our own Howard Spindler, piano, who will deliver a colorful and sweetly scented array of melodies for your listening pleasure.  Songs of Handel, Bellini, Schubert, and more.  

PASSOVER SEDER: Clara Barton Lounge, Friday, April 22nd at 6:00 PM. THE BOOK GROUP will meet at noon on April 24th to discuss "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness." For questions contact either  Shirley Bond at [email protected] or,  Sarah Singal at [email protected].

SERVICE IN THE PARK:  April 23rd at noon, including a Blessing of the Animals. All are welcome, with creaturely friends of all shapes and sizes (as well as stuffed animals or photos of pets of blessed memory) in tow!  
Some things to keep in mind:
* We’ll gather near the platform area in the park (directly across the street from church).
* Use your best judgment of your pet’s comfort level around other beings in judging whether to bring them to this gathering “in person.” (Pictures may also be blessed.)
* Remember leashes for dogs, carriers for cats, snakes, turtles, etc.
* Bring lots of water for your pet, in addition to any supplies needed to clean up after them. We will have plastic bags on hand.

CLEAN SWEEP:  Join First Universalist as we take part in the city's annual clean-up day on Saturday, April 30th.  This is a fun day that includes free food, t-shirt, and ticket to a Red Wings game for all volunteers.  To sign-up with the church, contact Shirley Bond.   

BECAUSE BLACK LIVES MATTER:   This amazing and highly effective organization is having its Annual Community Luncheon on Thursday, May 5th from 11:30AM to 1:30PM at the Riverside Convention Center. Tickets are $40. Teen Empowerment (TE) is a non-profit youth organization working in Rochester’s southwest neighborhood. Located on Genesee Street, TE works to create social change by hiring youth, ages 14 to 21, and then training them as community organizers, providing them with the support, resources and ongoing training they need to organize initiatives that involve both youth and adults in addressing community issues. If you are interested in attending and learning more about how TE is making a difference to the youth in Rochester, contact Eric Van Dusen at [email protected].

CLEAN-UP DAY : The 2016 Spring Fall Clean-up Day has been scheduled for Saturday May 7th, starting around 9:00 AM.  If you have ever wanted to volunteer for the church or to just get to know the building as well as other members a little better, this is a perfect opportunity! There will be all kinds of cleaning, fixing, painting, etc. jobs to be completed – something for all skill levels.  Bring along your favorite tools or cleaning products.  Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided.  Socializing and fun will also be part of the agenda.  For more information, please contact Tom Ruganis at 746-7796 (cell) or 442-2968 (home) or email to [email protected].
