WELCOME & INVITATION - Won't You Be My Neighbor?

A Note From Pastor Linda

Let the little children come to me... ~Jesus (from Luke 18, Matthew 19 , Mark 10)

Dear ChURch Family,

Riddle me this: What is GREEN and says RIBBIT?

"JESUS!" Green and ribbit, really? Not really. It's a frog.

A story is told about a pastor asking a question of the children at KIDTALK, "What is green and says ribbit?". To which one child, looking thoughtful replied slowly, "I think it's a frog, but I will say JESUS!" The pastor was surprised and asked, "Why Jesus?" To which the child replied boldly, "Because we are at church and that's all we talk about here, Jesus and God!"

I love this story! I love this story because having our kids WITH US in worship is central to them knowing Jesus.
  • Why? Because they HEAR about Jesus in worship.
  • Why? Because they SEE you worship Jesus in worship.
  • Why? Because they have the opportunity to PARTICIPATE by singing and dancing and praying and participating in the Lord's Supper- with a blessing or eating and drinking!
  • Why? Because Jesus said: "Let the little children come to me..." (from Luke 18, Matthew 19, Mark 10)

Children learn so many things in worship. Development is not just about what children can understand in words and concepts; it is about what they can learn socially, emotionally and spiritually. Probably the best known developmental work in the area of faith comes from James Fowler. In Fowler's first stage (children up to age 6) called the Intuitive-Projective faith stage, children basically reflect the spirituality of their parents. Children will build their first ideas about their faith from the impressions of what they see and hear in CHURCH!

This Sunday we return to our regular worship schedule- with our NEW Fall theme: Won't You Be My Neighbor. Here are the details:
  • Worship at 9am or 10:30am in the Great Hall.
  • The Hosanna Choir sings at BOTH services. If you are interested in joining the choir- they begin rehearsal on Wednesday (09.04) at 7:45pm in the Great Hall. No auditions, no robes... just come and sing!
  • All Church Family Photo at 10:10am- the picture will not be complete without out you!
  • Blessing of the Backpacks and Briefcases- or anything else you take out into the world to do your work and you will receive a NEW Hosanna "Hi Neighbor" bag tag!
  • Pray Ground is available for all our families with children up to Kindergarten. There are also Busy-Bags and Fidget-Bags to be used at your seats for kids of all ages.

Finally... INVITE a friend, family member or NEIGHBOR to join you. Tell them that you will pick them up, that you will save them a seat, that you will "buy" them a cup of coffee and cookie!! Invite them, and then together we will welcome them into the neighborhood and tell them about the transforming LOVE of Jesus!

See you in CHURCH!

 ~Pastor Linda
