Back to School Is Here!
I hope you all had a relaxing and safe summer!

I would like to wish students, teachers and school support workers all the best for the upcoming school year.

Please be reminded that drivers, cyclists and pedestrians need to be aware of their activities now that school is back in session. Here are a few tips:

  • Reduce speeds in schools zones.
  • Be ready to stop at all times. Children do not always notice oncoming traffic.
  • Stop when directed to do so by crossing guards.

There are hefty fines for passing a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing and range from $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offence. If you are convicted a second time within five years, the penalty is a fine of $1,000 to $4,000 and six demerit points.  You could also go to jail for up to six months.

Please stay safe on our roads and be extra careful in school zones. Thank you!
