INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION ON AGING MOBILIZES COALITION TO IMPROVE ADULT INFLUENZA VACCINATION IN CANADA

Getting a flu shot isn't anyone's idea of fun, but it's an important measure to keep the flu at bay this chilly November.

In an effort to  improve and mobilize knowledge on the importance of influenza vaccination for at-risk populations, including older adults, the International Federation on Aging (IFA) has brought together diverse disciplines and sectors

One outcome of the consultation was a consensus statement , Uniting Diverse Groups to Improve Adult Influenza Vaccination in Canada . The statement outlines the need for:
  1. clear, evidence-based messaging on influenza vaccination;
  2. strategies to increase influenza vaccination uptake rates among older people and at-risk populations;
  3. a coalition to ensure a cohesive voice regarding vaccinations;
  4. improved access to vaccinations;
  5. improved evidence regarding the burden of influenza on older people and at-risk populations; and
  6. provincial and territorial governments to pursue action on accessing data on vaccination uptake to inform and improve policies and practices.
This important work will help ensure older adults and at-risk populations remain protected during flu season.
