News You Can Use: September 14, 2020

Dear CCGS Families,
We had another great week of learning. Despite the rainy weather, we were still able to get outside this week. Our arrival and dismissal procedures have been smooth and quick and we cannot thank you enough for your help in keeping our students safe. This week we got to hear the Hopes and Dreams from Ms. Lindner's classroom. Students are looking forward to counting to 120, making new friends, becoming stronger readers, and quicker mathematicians. While visiting classrooms this week it was so clear that our kids came back to school ready to learn, and our teachers came ready to fill these spectacular minds with knowledge. This week I observed students playing sight word games, checking out books with Ms. Hymers, writing interviews of a classmate, reading stories on RAZ, working in small guided reading groups, and practicing subtraction and addition by making ten. The routines and expectations are well developed and students are showing so much resilience and care for one another. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to share some positive news with me, please feel free to contact me. I hope you have a great weekend.

This student was so excited to be our shout out school prize winner! He will get a special pencil from me, and will be our pledge leader all of next week. To watch the pledge from home each day please visit our Google website.
Classroom Highlight of the Week

Learning Fun in Mrs. Kensel’s Class

The past few weeks our class has been working hard on becoming a community of learners! The students have been practicing their four cornerstones and are working hard at being bucket fillers! They have enjoyed listening to and reading several stories based on friendship. They even got to write and perform a Frog and Toad puppet show which they video taped on See Saw! For formal writing, they have been working on writing narratives. Our math has centered around different adding and subtracting strategies that we have been practicing using Dreambox as well as playing math games using our individual math tool boxes with partners…while social distancing! Probably the highlight over the past few weeks has been science! They have been doing some hands on activities using the scientific method to experiment with magnets. They even got to observe a caterpillar begin to turn into a chrysalis! It has been so much fun watching the kiddos grow so much already!!
Hugs from Mrs. Kensel

  • We are so excited about our upcoming picture day. Picture day will be on September 16th. Students that are here for hybrid or full day instruction will receive flyers for picture day this next week. Remote students are invited to come for picture day between the hours of 12:00-3:00 p.m. Please pull into the back drive from Mill Street. Students will enter through Door 9 and exit through Door 10. Parents will stay in their vehicles. Students will be required to wear a mask into the building, but can remove their mask for the picture. Please complete the health survey and be ready to show the green check when pulling up to the door. All students can prepay online. To prepay for pictures go to SHOP.HRIMAGING.COM
  • All kindergarten students must have their physical, eye exam, and shot record turned in to Nurse Dawn by October 1st. All Early Childhood students must have their physicals and shot record completed and in the office by October 1st. Students that do not have these items turned in will be excluded from school. The state is not giving any leniency on this. This applies to remote students as well.
  • Whether you are a new family or a family who was at CCGS last year, we wanted to share the reading strategy bookmark we utilize, and our Zones of Regulation information that is being covered in school this year. Your child's teacher may also push this out to you through Seesaw, Google Classroom, or a newsletter.
  • We will be doing a YEF 1.15 mile/5k fun run here at CCGS during PE classes during the week of September 21st. With the help of our PTO we have created a CCGS fundraising page. Please click on the link to either donate to our school's page or to sign up your child or your family. This is an all ages virtual race that culminates on September 27, the official "Yorkville Runs" Day. Kids 13 and under can run 1.15 miles at their own pace and receive a medal upon completion. Registration is $10 and goes directly to our school. We will be using all funds collected to purchase birthday books for students and/or for our outdoor learning spaces. We have until Friday 9/11 to get a bonus of $250 from the YEF if we get the most students to sign up.
  • Your student's emotional well being is always important, but during this pandemic there are additional factors that may impact your child. Please review this document for resources and guidance. This is another great resource for helping your student cope through the changes we are facing.

Hello CCGS Families!

............................................................................
Hello Parents,

I want to personally thank all of the families who have already participated in our SchoolStore fundraiser! We are on our way to reaching our goal, but we need everyone’s help to make sure our teachers get the essential tools they need to help our students succeed.

If your family hasn’t participated, there’s still time!
This safe and easy fundraiser is 100% online so there is no face-to-face selling, collecting money, or delivering products. Participation only takes 12 minutes and your child will win fun and exciting prizes. Every student will receive a valuable Wild Republic Hugger, just for participating. More prizes will be rewarded when goals are reached.
Please help now. It really will make a difference.
Go to this link to show our valued teachers your support.
Sincerely,
Amy McNamara
PTO President
